Arctic Air

So just when the dirty snow starts to melt, Mother Nature decided that we needed another deep freeze this weekend!  The air temp is 8 degrees and with the wind, well below zero.

But I had a sunny breakfast!   1/2 Sara Lee whole wheat bagel with a schmere of smart balance, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons of peppers, 1/2 ounce Mexican cheese and 3 ounces of mandarin oranges”

Then I went to get an estimate on our car.  Guess how much the estimate is:  $777!   I need to call my neighbors and let them know.  Then I went to the post office to get some stamps, to Menard’s for kindling wood and matches for our wood burning stove, and then picked up some stuff at Aldi.  We just had this store open near us, and while I don’t go there for my weekly shopping, they do have a few things I like:

Yep, this baby is good and its only $2.99 a bottle!

At our neighbors daughters graduation party, they had this huge selection of wines to choose from – I especially liked this chardonnay and that’s when he let us in on his secret – all the wine was bought at Aldi and no wine was over $4.99.  Sweet!  I am  glad I am not a wine snob – I usually drink wine out of a box!

I brought Tony home some Wendy’s for lunch.  I ordered a plain baked potato and added 1 cup of canned chili and 1/2 ounce Mexican cheese.  Plus my Tabasco!!

Okay, so hopefully this won’t gross too many people out, but here’s how Tony’s knee is looking now!

it's healing nicely! We got back in 2 weeks to make sure the infection is gone - he can't wait to get his knee replaced!

So I am off to make my bread and make my superbowl recipe for the contest.  See you later – hope everyone is having a good Saturday!

  1. Nice to see that the knee is healing well. I love your simple, a wonderful variety of meals. I’m no wine snob either, the Two-buck chuck at TJ is fine for me. =)

  2. Eeeeeew, that knee looks gross!

  3. Glad to see it’s healing well!! I’m all about cheap wine – sounds fabulous 🙂

  4. Wow…that knee must have caused SO SO much pain. I can’t even imagine.

I love that you choose to eat half a bagel instead of dig out the insides of one whole bagel. It just looks so much better and wastes less food. Good for you!!! (Sorry that’s just a pet peeve of mine when people do that) Keep posting!! I love coming over to your blog.

P.s. I moved over to wordpress from blogger 🙂

  5. ewww!! but glad he’s getting better!! yay!

  6. Wow! That knee looks rough!

I hope things go well with your neighbor and fixing the car. It’s not like they have too much choice in the matter.

  7. I Love Aldi! They don’t have a lot of low cal options, but for the staples, its a great place. HA, wouldn’t you know I must have skipped right past the wine there – or maybe the ones next to us don’t have wine? Well, my goal of no drinking M-TH is goign well, but I extended it to no drinking through the entire month of January. Okay, what’s left of it anyways. My last glass of wine was on the 16th.
