Sushi!

I had such a non-Biz breakfast yesterday – it reminded me of something Meghann would normally have! πŸ˜€

Two Van’s brand multi-grain waffles, 6 large strawberries, 6 ounces of plain Greek yogurt split between the two waffles and 1/4 cup of sugar free pancake syrup.Β Β  This plate comes in at 294 calories, 52 carbs, 18.2 protein, 2 fat and 7 fiber πŸ˜€

My friend and I walked at lunch again yesterday – there is this spot we walk by, it’s flooded and loaded with frogs – they are so loud!Β  That is, until they hear us talk and then they all simultaneously stop!Β  It makes us laugh every time!

It was still pretty cold out – maybe only 40 degrees, but we are starting to see signs of spring!

I loved my lunch yesterday!Β  I found these chicken sausages – each link is only 100 calories!Β  I know it says “onions” on the package, but I didn’t see it and I didn’t taste any πŸ˜€

My plate – one link, one 80 calorie bun, 1 ounce of sun chips and a new apple to me – it was called Pacific Rose and it was really good!

Okay, I may have an unusal obcession with mustard and hot peppers! πŸ˜€

Lunch comes in at:Β  393 calories, 53 carbs, 18.7 protein, 13 fat and 6.1 fiber.

Tony and I decided to have sushi for dinner – it’s at this point in the Lenten season that I am all out of ideas for non-meat meals!Β  We were tired of shrimp, I don’t like many types of fish, so sushi won!Β  On the way we stopped at World Market to pick up some coffee – so cheap!Β  We got a 24 ounce bag of Italian roast for only $8.49!

Of course you can never go into a store like that and not pick anything else up.Β  This may have landed in my basket:

But I did not put this in my basket! While I like spicy things, they have to be flavorful spicy – I think this one would just be too hot!

I almost always get the same thing when we go here – the aged dashi tofu, potstickers and miso soup.Β  I decided to switch gears and I got the Fire Spice Roll – jalapenos with cream cheese and raw tuna in a tempura batter with a spicy sauce – this was so good!Β  It even came to the table on fire!

I'll definitely order this one again!

I also got the cucumber rolls:

Tony always gets this – its called Happy Avo and its raw fish on an avocado with the most amazing sauce – we both agree that the sauce makes this dish – I didn’t eat any of the raw fish, but I did have a couple bites of the avocado.

And Tony got his crunchy shrimp head!

I also had two of these - πŸ˜€

And I even tried one of Tony’s rolls – it had raw fish/tuna/avocado and small roe on the side – it was actually really good! Ten years ago I never would have looked at that, let alone try it!

I estimate dinner at 699 calories, 102 carbs, 21 protein, 6.6 fat and 2 fiber - does that sound about right?

Stats for Friday: 45 minute walk.  1,387 calories, 207 carbs, 58 protein, 22 fat and 15.1 fiber. Calorie Count gave me a C+ for the day because I was low on fat, too high in sodium, and too low in fiber, Vitamin A, Calcium, Iron and Potassium. 😦  Maybe I should start taking multi-vitamins again?!

The girls have already left for a full day of shopping at Woodfield.Β Β  I am excited because Food Buzz picked my submission for this months 24:24:24!Β  I am having some German exchange students over for pizza making 101!Β  Be sure to stop by tomorrow for that post!

I love this picture of Hannah and Maxi!Β  It was taken at the ice skating rink they went to last night.

Oh – check out my friend Judy’s giveaway! Her son recently had difficult brain surgery and the prognosis is great!

Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday! πŸ˜€

  1. mmmm sushi…i still haven’t tried Kyoto! SOON!!

  2. When I saw your sausage, I was thinking exactly what you write in the caption–this girl loves her mustard and jalapenos! I have another friend who’s tried that bacon bar and liked it but I haven’t seen them around these parts. I think bacon and chocolate together is genius!

  3. so, how many WW points in chocolate covered bacon???

  4. Holy mustard lol! At first I thought it was cheddar cheese! πŸ˜€
Love that pic of Hannah and Maxi – so pretty!!
I would have given your eats an A+, they all looked delicious!

  5. Ok, I totally had to laugh at the sausage pic. Not only did it look picture perfect, but I was not shocked with the peppers on it. I think the waffles look dreamy.

  6. The bacon bar is SO AMAZING!!! I have had it before and can’t wait until Lent is over so I can have it again – I gave up bacon!

  7. We tried the Vosges bacon bar last year and my partner liked it, but I thought it was kinda gross. What I did like A LOT was their Red Fire bar. It’s got Ancho & Chipotle chiles as well as Ceylon cinnamon. It sounds so weird, but oh my gosh…it totally works!

Where are you able to find 80 calorie buns?

    • Red Fire Bar!! I’ll have to look for that next time! It’s my local brand – S. Rosen’s Mary Ann Light Hot Dog Buns – it may be a Chicago brand though?

  8. Thanks for the heads up on the sausages – I’ve been looking for some gourmet chicken sausages, but so far everything I’ve found has HFCS in them…these do not – yay! Now to find them locally…:)

  9. Yeah, I wanna know about the 80 cal buns too!

Hey, I bought that bacon bar at a gourmet food shop I went to in Texas the last time I went home to visit. I brought it back home with me and was too scared to try it! I left it in my car for a couple days, then when I finally got up the nerve to take the plunge, I went to get the dang thing and it was all melted and ruined! SO how was it??

  10. That HAS to be the prettiest presentation of a sausage I’ve ever seen! It looks great!! πŸ™‚

  11. Oh wow that sushi looks amazing! We had sushi last night too and it’s starting to become a Friday night tradition! πŸ˜€

  12. I’m sure you’ve heard it a million times, but Hannah looks just like you! πŸ˜€

I love those little orange roe on sushi. It really makes it!

  13. Biz, thanks for the shoutout. Remember, too, that you can enter once per day to increase your chances of winning.

I just had sushi for the 2nd time in my life when we were in San Diego last week. My son had to show me how to mix the sauce and eat it. I loved it, but my blood sugar woke me up at 2 AM and I couldn’t get back to sleep. And that was after I scraped off most of the rice. Are all our bodies different? You seem to be able to eat more carbs than I can. I love that you vary your diet so much too.

    • Sadly, I just take more insulin if I know I am eating a lot of carbs – yesterday was an unusually high carb day for me, but I don’t do that very often.

And yep, no two diabetics are alike πŸ˜€

  14. Hey Biz!

I never thought I was a sushi fan until Taiwan – where I realized I like Nagri or whatever – the raw fish & rice, no seaweed or anything yuck like that!

  15. I like the looks of that breakfast πŸ˜‰

I’ve had the milk Vosges Bacon Bar—so yummy. Not as good a fresh candied bacon (yes, we went to a Beer and Bacon festival last year where they had that) but still so good!

And I love sushi! Only one more week of lent!

  16. I love how fancy you made your sausage with the mustard and jalapenos!

    So good!

And I love that pic of Hannah and Maxi!

  17. Yum, that sushi looks really good.

  18. Your dinner looks great! The chocolate covered bacon is not great in my honest opinion.

Maxi looks like she is having a blast. Can’t wait to see you pizza making party.

  19. i’ve so seen that chocolate bar and almost picked it up πŸ™‚ can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

  20. You always seem to have so much fun when you are planning and enjoying your meals. They are almost a celebration! As always stunning photos!

  21. I was actually thinking that’s ALOT of mustard before I read the part you typed about your obsession πŸ˜€

WOW ~ all of your sushi and dishes look phenomenal. I wish my husband would eat sushi, but, he pretty much is a teriyaki chicken/beef person. It’s so much more fun when you can share.

LOVE the picture of hannah and maxi – they really do look so HAPPY!

Congrats on the 24,24,24 ~ I have to check it out this afternoon!
