Hanging with Hannah . . . Dinner and a Movie!

I woke up yesterday to make zucchini lasagna for our lunch at work yesterday.  Before I knew it, it was time to leave for work, so breakfast was 3 leftover almost mock buttermilk pancakes with 3 ounces of sliced turkey breast – which actually tasted really good dipped in the pancake syrup. 😀

10 PointsPlus for breakfast

I had a work obligation and only had 45 minutes – not enough time to make it to the gym and back.  I looked on weather.com, it was 37 degrees at 11:15 in the morning.  I just put on my gym shoes and headed outside and walked for 45 minutes (and was soclose to just skipping a workout – so glad I didn’t!).  There are VERY FEW signs of spring people, and they are talking about possible snow in the next couple days.  Um, tomorrow is April 1 people!

The zucchini lasagna I made previous, I made into 2 servings for 7 points – this time I divided it by 3, so it was 5 points a serving, with a 2 point romaine/carrot/apple salad on the side – with my favorite dressing:  Annie’s Light Goddess dressing. 😀

I don’t know about your teenage kids, buy mine is busy!  With school, babysitting and her job, I’ve said in the past that sometimes we are two ships in the night – I come home for work just as she is leaving.  Well Wednesday nights she almost always if free, so I’ve declared Wednesday as Hanging with Hannah!  We may just go on a walk, or to a group fitness class, but at least we will have a few hours a week with no distractions.

Last night we decided on dinner and a movie – dinner at The Lucky Monk and to see Hall Pass.  The Lucky Monk has the best spinach pizza I’ve ever had.  It’s described as:

Spinach, ricotta, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil and fresh shaved Parmesan cheese

I’ve recreated that pizza at home here.  This may need to be on my party pizza Friday menu! 😀

My guess is that for my portion of pizza and two glasses of wine, dinner comes in at 19 points – totally worth it!  Thanks for being my date Hannah! 😀

Stats for Wednesday:

  • 36 points, 26 flex remaining, 26 activity points earned
  • 45 minute walk at lunch
  • average blood sugar 122
  • spending quality time with my daughter = priceless 😀

Questions of the Day:

  • Do you schedule time with your teen kids?

Guess that I got in the mail . . . I’ve never been called to jury duty ONCE in my life!

  • Have you ever been called for jury duty?

Have a great day!

  1. Yum! Love that zuch lasagna- fantastic! Definitely making it again. And love your time with Hannah. The pizza looks like perfection. And I love that sometimes y’all go for walks or take group fitness classes together :). My Mom & I love doing that!

  2. Sounds like you guys had a great night! Your pizza looks fabulous! Way to go not skipping the workout!

  3. Mmm that pizza looks fab!

No jury duty for me…got many years for thattt to happen. Go you on not skipping a workout!

  4. Love Hanging with Hannah Wednesday! So fun!

Jury duty, however, is NOT. It’s a snoozefest of sitting around for hours until you eventually get dismissed! I’ve never been called back for a trial – just tons of sitting around! Bring LOTS of reading material!

  5. Love that you and Hannah recognize the importance of making time to spend together – not to make you teary or anything, but one of these days that won’t be an option. Relish it, Mama Biz. 🙂

  6. I love your relationship with Hannah!
Yes to jury duty! Served too. Sat through an entire trial & ended up being an alternate before the verdict was given.

  7. Looks warmer where you are!
My kids are in their 20’s now and i still try to get together when our schedules work out.
I was going treat Jen to sushi but then i got sick ;(

  8. Yes to being called, but I’ve never served. Always had a conflict or the case was settled before I got there.

How sweet that you are makingthe most of Wednesdays with Hannah. You just never know when that time won’t be there any more – so glad you’re enjoying it!

The pizza looks SO GOOD. Too good!

  9. That pizza looks amazing! Love that you and Hannah make sure to spend time together 🙂

I got jury duty my freshmen year of college, however the judge let me get out of it because I had exams that week. Score!

  10. That pizza looks amazing! I love that you and Hannah make time to spend with each other 🙂

I got called for Jury duty my freshmen year of college, but I got lucky because I had exams that week so the judge let me off the hook.

  11. Your daughter is so lovely.

And can I haz the spinaches pizzas, pleeez?

As for jury duty – I was called one time for a three day stint. My husband took off work to watch the kids so I could go [civic duty and all!] And each day I got ready, dressed up – skirt, top, pantyhose, heels, makeup – the whole shebang.

And each day, after jurying polling, I was sent home. On my final day leaving the courthouse [honestly a little dejected because being on a jury would be COOL!] I ran into the deputy at the front desk and he said “Dismissed again, huh?” I nodded my head and he smiled and said “Well, ma’am, it’s because you are dressed too nice. They don’t want that here.”

Ohhhhkay. I was raised to respect the courts and I figured I was supposed to dress appropriately. Evidently in the little backwoods county we lived in they wanted the blue jeans and flannel shirt contingent to comprise a jury of their peers. [And this was 45 miles from our nation’s capitol. Go figure.]

Pretty much explained the dress code at Sunday mass too. Sigh.

  12. Finally! You got called for Jury duty – I thought it was unfair that not only have I got called twice, but was PICKED twice too!

Glad you had fun with Hanners! I like that the spinach is on top, not all slimy!

  13. We visit with my stepson and his fiance often. It’s always a blast! My stepdaughter and her hubby are in OKC so we don’t see them boo!

And yes, I have been called for Jury Duty. It’s a pain for me because of the driving. They hardly give you a good compensation to do it. I don’t mind doing it BUT the time it takes away from my business stinks. They had me come back for 3 days and then I got there the last day and they let some of us go, a waste of time and gas.

    Have fun LOL

  14. I got called for Jury Duty the day Ryan was supposed to get home for R&R last deployment. I was able to get out of it (thank God!) because of that and because I hadn’t (and still haven’t) gotten a MO drivers license. That’s $20 that can go towards my shoe or margarita fund 😉

  15. As a teen my mom and I spent a lot of time together. It ws the best!

  16. I was called for jury duty once. We all sat in a waiting room for 2 hours and then was dismissed!

    Yay for Hannah Wednesdays! 🙂

  17. Pizza looks fresh and yummy.
I try schedule things with the kids seperatly – Tarryn normally wants to shop LOL.
I am thinking of starting a annual mom and daughter cruise trip.

I have been called for dury duty twice since becoming a citizen.

  18. I was on jury duty a number of years ago and loved it! That was back when you had a 2 week stint. Maybe it helps that I sat on a jury but I thought the people watching was great and I learned a lot!

Good for you for planning dates with Hannah. I try to do that with my girls too. It’s something you’ll both always remember!

  19. you’ve never had jury duty?!! I get it once a year here in Baltimore…it’s like clockwork!

  20. Love that you make time to spend with your daughter! I have to do that with Colin, and he’s only 9 – I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when he’s a teenager!

  21. erintakescontrol

I’ve never been called for jury duty, but entire fam has been called numerous times in the past few years. My Mom has been called four times in two years, my lil bro has been called three times in three years, and my Dad just got called last month. They’ve always been able to get out of it due to school or work obligations, but I just know I will get it eventually…

  22. Jury duty intimidates me for some reason. I’ve been called several times, and each time, so far, I’ve gotten out of it (I either was a full-time student, moved, etc.) I’m sure my time is coming up again soon 😛

  23. You and Hannah have such a great relationship!!! So nice!!! OOOH…jury duty! FUN!!! Sort of…

  24. Yup. I was picked as an alternate and actually had to step up to fill in a spot when one of the juror had a family emergency. It was a DUI case and I felt like I learned a lot from it.

  25. I’m so jealous of your date with Hannah! My daughter Jean is in the Dom. Rep., and we talk and google chat almost every day, but it just isn’t the same as just being together. She’ll be home for 2 weeks in May/early June, and I’ll have some of my own dates to talk about!

  26. Love your pictures!
Hopefully you don’t have to serve jury duty.
The first time i got called in, I ended up having to serve on a jury for 6 weeks! It was a neat experience but I wouldn’t want to do it again.

  27. That pizza looks amazing! So worth the points..especially with the wine 🙂 I was really busy as a teen…still am! But I always made time for my mommy!

  28. I’ve been called to jury duty THREE times (county, state and federal courts) in the past 18 months. In the previous 15 years that I was eligible, I wasn’t called once. NJ just knows how to get you, I guess! I was either dismissed or they didn’t get to my jury duty number each time, but one of these days (perhaps in retirement) I’d love to get a juicy case!

  29. It is a lot more green here, but I’m afraid it’s going to freeze and ruin the chances of fresh local berries this year! Hope not. I love that you have declared Wednesdays “hanging with Hannah!” I did get called to jury duty and had to serve in 2005, but it was a very good experience and was quite enjoyable for me. It wouldn’t have been as much if the guy had been guilty and I had to be part of his sentencing, but he was innocent and I enjoyed the story unfolding in the courtroom-kinda like watching a movie. Very interesting, and got to meet some really nice people.

  30. I’ve gotten called for jury duty THREE times in my 4.5 years of living here. I just call up and give an excuse ea. time though. Neither of my parents (in their 50s) have ever been called for jury duty. J has a few times, too. Must be our clogged Cook County system.

  31. Ugh…yes, i have been called…but fortunately, never made it to the jury selection. Now serving as a witness…..yes to that….wayyyy worse than having to sit on the jury! haha ) and it’s a sarcastic haha…not a funny one!)

I WISH I could spend more time with my daughter! Like yours, she is super busy, but she is also away at college, so when she comes home, I want to spend time with her…I don’t want her spending time talking to her friends on the phone! 😦 They grow up wayyy tooo fast, and I secretly wish I could stop it from happening! But I can’t! You are lucky you can schedule in time with your daughter. I do try to pencil in time with the boys though. They will be gone before I know it too!

The absolute BEST pizza I ever ate was in Chicago. It was even at a stupid hotel….haha.

  32. I love quality time with my mom. Sound like you enjoy it too!

  33. love the zuchhini lasagna, i really need to make that! the pictures are beautiful, here’s to a warm april!

  34. M.J. Jacobsen

Love hanging with Hannah nights, too cool!
I’m in my late 50’s and have never been called to jury duty………..hope it stays that way! 🙂

  35. Just had my first jury duty experience last week! I only had to go the first day, then we were all told the case was being settled and we weren’t needed. 🙂 Free day off work for me!!!

  36. A lot of fun to hang out with your daughter! The spinach pizza sounds delicious and healthy!

  37. That is so cool that you spend that time with your daughter! I never wanted to hang out with my mom when I was a teenager, but I love it now 🙂

  38. I’ve been called to jury duty once…but as soon as they found out my husband is a cop they sent me home! A nice perk:)

  39. I was called once, sat around for less than an hour and the case was resolved before they even questioned anyone. I don’t spend much time with my teen. I think it is hard with a boy. Wish we had something we could do that he’d enjoy before he heads off next fall.

  40. […] So those green beans?  They are called “wrinkled” beans on the menu and Hannah and I were fighting over them right down to the last one.   We were talking about them on how to recreate them at home, because they don’t seem like the fresh green beans that I see my Mom make.  As luck would have it, when I was shopping at the grocery store, I saw a bunch of long beans.  Huh.  As I stood there I jumped on my iPhone and found this recipe that I think will most closely recreate this dish – and they were only .99 cents a pound!  It was a fun dinner and I loved that it was just me and Hannah.  It reminds me of the old days when I had “Hanging with Hannah Wednesday!” […]

  41. […] Hannah was in high school, we started “hanging with Hannah” and each of us wouldn’t schedule anything for Wednesday nights so we could spend it […]
