Half a Million Page Views . . . and a Giveaway

First I wanted to say with my new job and my Parents-in-Law in town for Easter weekend, my blog reading and commenting has come to a screeching halt.  😦   I hope that you are all having a great week and I hope to catch up with you guys soon!

Breakfast was quick and easy – a Jimmy Dean’s Turkey Breakfast Bowl:

One of the attorneys and I went over to check out the new gym.  We were going to drive when someone said we could just walk there.  So we knew which direction we were going in and just headed south.  Only problem is that behind our office complex there is a neighborhood with the hugest houses.  We were walking on this burm of landscaped trees, until we came to a pond, and then had to walk through a partially wooded area – it was so funny!

We get there and meet with a lady for the tour.  I asked about a corporate discount, and she said that in order for our firm to get the discount – you would need 10 memberships.  That’s just not gonna happen.  It’s really nice, has a pool and a fancy locker room.  The price is too steep for me – $62.50 a month just for me.  While I can justify using my FoodBuzz money to pay for it, I just can’t wrap my brain around spending more money on a gym, when I can just get my ass out of bed and work out at the gym near my house.

But I did score a free week pass for next week! 😀  I’ll need to find a walking buddy.

So without my WW gals to cook for, I’ve kinda lost my lunch mojo – I just brought leftover chili mac from the night before – boring but delicious!  Lunch is 10 Points.

Before I left for work yesterday morning, I made a batch of my no rise pizza dough and just left it on the counter all day.   I’ve had a jones for calzones lately.  I looked at a bunch of recipes, and one said to liberally sprinkle corn meal on your pizza peel – heat your oven to 425 for 30 minutes with a baking stone – then just shake the calzones off the board onto the hot baking stone.

I assembled all the pizzas on my pizza peel – and I don’t know if the sauce started to absorb into the dough, or my dough was rolled too thin – let’s just say I had a hard time getting them onto the baking stone – and it was making me mad – I always want everything to go perfect – but I knew the flavor would be there even if they didn’t look pretty. 😀

My calzone – 1/4 of no rise pizza dough, 1 ounce cooked Italian sausage, 1 slice of cooked bacon crumbled, baby spinach, green pepper and 1.5 ounces of fresh mozzarella = 12 PointsPlus.

My calzone filled before heading to the oven – these only need to bake 15 minutes.  I did do an egg wash on top (1 egg mixed with 2 tablespoons water).

My dough was so thin, it kinda broke apart on me – although all the flavor was there even if it looks like ass! 😀

After dinner Hannah and started to clean.  Our house is never really dirty or messy, but with my Parents-in-Law in town, we just wanted to vacuum, dust, etc.  But Hannah and I both have the domino effect when cleaning.  Once you clean the front of the oven and the dishwasher, you realize that the baseboards need to be wiped down.  Then when you 409 the kitchen counters, you realize “when is the last time I cleaned out the toaster oven?”  About an hour and a half later, our house is squeaky clean. 😀   I can tell you my Type A daughter is happy the kitchen counters are so clutter free.

So My Bizzy Kitchen has reached another milestone  . . . half a million page views!  I am always humbled when people stop by and take time out of their day to read about my life and maybe get a new recipe to try.  The food blog community is so awesome and I thank you for your comments, emails and friendship. 😀

So what does a cookbook whore give away to celebrate this milestone?  Um, some cookbooks!

First up:  Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day – “100 New Recipes featuring whole grains, fruits, vegetables and gluten-free ingredients.”

Next up:  Eating Well’s Diet Cookbook.  I like this one because not only are the recipes simple, but there is nutritional stats for each recipe.

And finally – Best of the Best – the best recipes from the 25 best cookbooks of the year:

All you have to do to win is leave a comment telling me what your favorite cookbook is.  You get a second entry if you tweet about the giveaway, just leave a second comment letting me know you did.  Good luck and I’ll pick a winner on Monday, the day after Easter.

Have a great Thursday!

  1. I have the 2nd and 3rd cookbooks – they are great!!

I would LOVE the bread cookbook – all your bread posts make me want to make bread but I am still sort of nervous about it.

Maybe Spring Break will be for me to experiment with bread!

    much love and happy days!

-Oh, BTW, CONGRATS on new job and SORRY about losing your WW ladies for lunch!

much love and big hugs my friend!!

  2. Have a wonderful Easter weekend! I love having visitors; it’s a great reason to really clean the house! But next time I have visitors, can I borrow Hannah?!? 😉

I honestly don’t have a lot of cookbooks, but the books above sound great! I like Giada’s Everyday Italian.

  3. awesome giveaway…congrats on the number of views! i always love reading your posts and making your recipes.

i’d love the eating well cookbook.

    have a lovely easter!

  4. Oh, and I forgot to say that I’m not surprised you have half a million page views. Your blog is awesome!

  5. Congrats on the blogging milestone! That is so exciting 🙂 Bummer about the gym- but awesome that you have a free weeks pass! May be worth shooting back into the membership office and trying to work something out with them. Tell them how much you’re willing to spend and see if they’ll meet you there. Whenever I start to do a little cleaning, it always seems to turn into a ton of cleaning as well. We are having guests in town all week and part of next week too- so I understand feeling stretched for time! GREAT giveaway- I’ve been wanting Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day for months. My favorite cookbook is probably Giada’s Everyday Italian- I love simple, delicious recipes 🙂

  6. As usual your food looks awesome! Too bad on the gym membership, that is pretty steep. You can’t convince 10 people in your firm to join?

I love the Eating Well book! Great job on the blog, a lot of people enjoy it!

  7. I would love to have the Healthy Bread in 5 minutes a Day! Sounds awesome. My favorite cookbook that I own is actually a little cookbook put together by a church I used to go to. It has lots of old recipes that have been around in the families for years and years!

  8. Congrats on the pageviews, Biz!!! You are awesome!

As a fellow cookbook/recipe whore, count me in on the giveaway!!! I can always make room on the shelf…in one of 6 bookcases…in one of 4 rooms… um, or…under the bed 😉

  9. Congrats on all those page views! Wow! I would love that bread book – you know how I adore cookbooks!

The cookbook I seem to use the most these days is one called The Perfect Recipe For Losing Weight and Eating Great. Every recipe has been fantastic.

  10. Rachel Palmieri

Oh, I would love to win the Eating Well Cookbook….I LOVE their magazine! I think my favorite cookbook at home might be an old WW cookbook called Quick Cooking for Busy People. Some of my favorites are in there! My other favorite is the internet. You can find all sorts of stuff!

  11. I need another cookbook like I need a kick in the head – but I can’t resist! They might be my kryptonite 🙂

I’m not sure I have a favorite cookbook but here the ones who mostly stay in the kitchen while others are downstairs on a bookcase: Giada DeLaurentis’ Everyday Italian, The Complete Cooking Light Cookbook, American’s Test Kitchens Cookbook, and Barefoot Contessa’s Back to Basics.

I can completely identify with the domino cleaning affect – happens to me too only I don’t have a Hannah to help me!

  12. Right now, my favorite is Nigella Lawson’s newest

  13. Congrats to you Biz!!!

I would LOVE to get my hands on that Healthy Bread in five minutes a day. I do go in spurts where I like to make bread…this book would be so handy!! I actually made french bread for the first time last night…4 baguettes…for my son for his French Class. Hubby exclaimed it to be, DELICIOUS!…which was strong words from him, as I think he is my biggest critic! lol

I think my fav cookbook of all time are any of Ina Garten’s cookbooks, although not healthy, I have not been disappointed with any recipes thus far. Fav cookbook of the moment in the America’s Test Kitchen Light and Healthy 2010 version. Everything I have made from there has been a homerun!

Enjoy your company and the weekend!!

  14. Congrats on your milestone! Choosing a favorite cookbook is hard, but I’d say the one that I open the most is The America’s Test Kitchen Family Cookbook.

  15. My favorite cookbook is tough to pick! I like The Joy of Cooking for a reference, but the one I use most is probably the one my mom made me with family favorites 🙂 Let’s say that packing my cookbooks for my upcoming move will require many boxes!

Of the ones from the giveaway, I really would like to check out the top 25 cookbook–looks like fun!!

  16. Cool milestone! Don’t enter me for the giveaway – you KNOW I won’t use the cookbooks, lol!

Hope you all have a great Easter – nice to have the house cleaned all at once, too. 🙂

  17. Congrats on the new job and the blog views 🙂 I have 2 favorite cookbooks and they are both church cookbooks. You know those are time-tested recipes! Have a great weekend – my parents are coming from Cary to stay with us for the weekend.

  18. Mine is dorie’s cooking at home. Thanks.

  19. I love all of Rachael Rays cookbooks…her recipies are so easy and delicious!!!! She makes cooking seems so simple.

  20. Looks like there’s another Elaine commenting today. We Elaines are a rare breed! Congrats on your page views! Your blog is a pleasure to read- that just *might* have something to do with that high count 🙂 The Eating Well cookbook looks like a good one, and not out of reach for those of us with limited cooking skills! BTW, I’m curious to know if Hannah likes to cook, and likewise, I assume that your mom likes to cook as well. My mother detests cooking, and guess what, that attitude rubbed off on me, although I’m not as negative about it as I once was. I’m always curious to learn about mothers’ influence on their kids’ attitudes towards cooking.

  21. The best of the best! how could you go wrong with a title like that!

  22. How can I possibly pick one favorite cookbook? They’re like my children! I am rocking on the Dishing Up Maryland cookbook right now though.

  23. Wow, half a million! That’s nothing to sneeze at! Woot! My favorite cookbook is the one I’ve assembled myself, full of the recipes I use over and over. I really don’t use “real” cookbooks any more b/c I have such a collection I’ve gathered from online, but this one of my own has all my faves! Still, I read cookbooks like they’re novels and would love to dig into those beuts!

  24. Congrats on the page views!
My fave is totally the vegomonicon cookbook

  25. Yay for blog milestones! I would love these cookbooks!

My favorite cookbooks are Giada’s…so simple and tasty. Oh yeah, I love the America’s Test Kitchens too!

    Have a great weekend!

  26. I love reading your blog!! The food always looks amazing!! My favorite cookbook is an old Betty Crocker Cookbook that my grandmother gave me when I got married, 24 yrs ago next month. 33. My favorite cookbook is one that my church put together a few years back. Everyone submitted old family recipes to be included. Most of the recipes are not that healthy, but are very tasty. This is why I like reading your blog because you inspire me to make healthy and great tasting food to help me and my family lose weight. Congratulations on the new job! I keep seeing the Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day book, and would love to try out some recipes from it.

  34. wow honey congrats on all the page hits! that is so great and also congrats on the new job =)

Great giveaway! don’t laugh but my fave cookbook is Micky’s cookbook! I’ve had it since I was 8 years old! and I refuse to throw away =)

I am waiting for passover to be done and the visiting family to go home and then getting cooking from my new cookbook thanks to you 🙂 Cannot wait to get back on track!!

  39. When I make my calzones I usually only put fillings on one half and then fold it over and make the seam. Try that next time so it won’t burst!

Ummm my favorite cookbook!? Too many to list!! I have probably 50, although I’m afraid to count. I love the fundraiser type ones where people compile family recipes to sell for a cause. They always have some great grandma-home-cooking style recipes in them. Some real gems!

  44. Congrats on the page views! What a milestone! I’m having a hard time debating between the bread cookbook and The Best of the Best cookbook – too hard to decide! But if I win, I’m sure I could make up my mind:)

  45. Congrats on the page views! So exciting! My favorite cookbooks are all the ones by Ina Garten. 🙂

  46. My favorite cookbook is The Family Baking Book from America’s Test Kitchen. Really, I dig anything from my “friends” up in New England.

  47. My favorite cookbook is anything published by Rodale (owners of Prevention, Men’s Health, Women’s Health). I used to work there and they publish excellent cookbooks!

  48. My favorite cookbook is by Ellie Krieger. Most have minimal ingredients and very healthy.

No photos, but simple, healthy and doable recipes. I refer to them alot. Have a great day!!!! Enjoy your family visit.

  53. I LOVE all of my Hungry Girl cookbooks, but I’m excited to get my copy of Rocco Dispirito’s book I just ordered off of Amazon. I already have too many cookbooks for one person, but they’re just so addicting!!

  57. First, I have to tell you how much I enjoy your blog, Congrats on the milestone! I am the proud owner of over 1000 cookbooks (yes I am crazy), but what’s a few more? Picking a favorite is hard, but since you asked I’d have to say, Charmaine Solomon’s “The Complete Asian Cookbook.” I hope my other cookbooks will forgive me,lol!

  71. Judith Franing

I so enjoy reading cookbooks ( and making things with them !). I have to admit that I have been peeking often at Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day at our local bookstore.
My most worn cookbook is the old Better Homes and Gardens. However I also love the Taste of Homes varieties. I have a collection of Church cookbooks too. It is always nice to have the old familiar tried and true recipes.
Have a Great Easter. . .hope you get some time to just relax. Thanks so much for all your time and effort you put into this blog. I love coming and reading everyday. Kind of my “me” time.

  72. I love Clean Food and Clean Start by Terry Walters.

    Those cookbooks look great!

  73. i love eating well: healthy in a hurry – i’ve made almost everything in there!

  74. My favorite cookbook is the I have put together, for almost 30 years, of my family’s favorite recipes. When my daughter goes off to college I will make her a copy so she can use the recipes and feel a touch of home 3000 miles away!

  75. Looks like everyone loves cookbooks (espec when they’re free!). Congrats on the new job and the big milestone! Both are well-deserved. I like Emeril’s 20-40-60 cookbook & also the old WW Make it in Minutes. Guess I’m always in a hurry. 😉

  76. Congrats on all those views!!! I’d love the artisan bread cookbook. I’ve heard about that method and wanted to try it.

  77. Right now my kids and I are on a major Mark Bittman kick. We’ve been using ‘How to Cook Everything’ a lot. Though I’m certain my teenage daughter would love the ‘Healthy Bread in Five Mins a Day’ book. She uses a no-knead recipe for her own meals.

  78. my favorite cookbook is one from the south called River Road Recipes.

  79. Congrats!! My favorite is the Williams Sonoma savoring series — Savoring Tuscany is particularly good!

  80. Right now my favorite book is Hungry Girl 200 Under 200. As the name implies all the recipies are under 200 calories and she gives WWP+ too. Loving it!

  81. Congrats on the milestone! Wow. My favorite cookbooks are always the ones put together by real people, like for school fundraisers. You know that the real folk only share the best recipes:)

  82. Oh I have to pick one favorite cookbook? It would probably be my hometown church cookbook. It is a collection of recipes from generations of ladies that are their favorites (you know the dishes they usually bring to potlucks)! I love the recipes but also the history and stories that are included in it 🙂

  83. I do not have a website or tweet but I did tell my sister about this site! I love it 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful Easter!! I would just love to win one of these fabulous books 🙂

  84. Really the best cookbook I have here is our scout cookbook. It has so many family recipes in it I love it. But that bread cookbook you’ve got up there, YUM!!!
A chance to win is great but just stopping by and visiting is wonderful.
Take care Bizzy and have a blessed Easter.

  85. How could I pick just one favorite? Probably my favorite right now is Dorie Greenspan’s Baking From My Home to Yours, but my cupboard is full of beloved cookbooks!
