We just laugh!

Growing up my Mom went back to work when my sister and I were 8 years old.  At the time I thought it was so cool that my Mom had to take a bus and the “L” to work – of course years later I learned what a hassle commuting was.

There was a gas station on the corner where my Mom got off the bus.  Inside the gas station they had a candy vending machine.  For .10 cents I would get these:

My sister and I would split this package while waiting for my Mom to get off the bus.  Except we usually got there about 30 minutes before my Mom was ready to get off the bus (I am sure to get away from our grandma, but that’s a whole other post).  Every time I bus would come to the corner we’d wait for people to get off, the bus to move forward, and to see if she was getting off.  We would jump up and down when she got off the bus!

Well, Hannah is the same way about Hanging with Hannah nights.  I actually worked a little late so didn’t get home until almost six last night.  She had my bathing suit laid out, my outfit to change into – she was so happy to see me come home! 😀

Before I talk about Hanging with Hannah, I didn’t realize that yesterday was Administrative Assistants Day, which really is a made up holiday if you ask me.  But the attorneys brought in bagels, danishes and fruit and my bosses gave me a gift card. 😀

I had a turkey bowl in the freezer, but then had 1/2 a cinnamon scone from panera, some fruit, and my bowl – all together breakfast comes in at 10 points.

I went to the gym at lunch – ended up doing 40 minutes on the elliptical on level 8, and did almost 4 miles 😀  I was a sweaty mess and decided I better shower before going back to work.  Um, the showers?  I felt like I was at hotel!  Each shower stall was about 6×6 feet, had frosted glass doors, and really cool glass tiles.  The best part was the Kohler shower head – you could make it like rain, or then turn it and it was one straight line like a waterfall – so cool!  The price of the memebership may be worth it just for the shower. 😀

I had leftover pasta from the other night – except half the amount of pasta and I added 1 cup of steamed broccoli – even though you only see two pieces of broccoli, it was mostly on the bottom.  Lunch is 8 Points.  (and I found a good place to take pictures at lunch with plenty of natural light!)

So after Hannah and I got dressed for the gym, we always check out the pool situation to decide what we are going to do.  There were a couple lanes opened, so we decided to do 20 minutes of cardio – its a different kind of elliptical machine – not sure how to describe it but its kinda like mountain climbing and its hard – we were both huffing and puffing after 20 minutes!

Then we got in the pool – only one lane was available, so we shared a lane.  I have to say my swimming skillz are getting better!  I have finally gotten my arms, legs and breathing to work together!  Kerstin and Shelley would be so proud!  We did laps for about 20 minutes, then got our fun on with the weighted rings – OMG, we literally laughed our asses off.

We have six rings, and no matter how hard I tried, Hannah would always get 4 and I’d only get two.  Well, she is a better swimmer than me, so I have to give her that. 😀  At one point a couple older ladies were coming close to our area – we basically had the whole side of the pool to ourselves.  We gave them the stink eye though and they went to the therapy pool.  And then Hannah says “that’s right bitches, step aside.”  That just cracked me up!

Then it was hot tub time – our favorite part of the night – there is nothing like a hot tub at the end of a long day.  But after 10 minutes we were both starving, so off to Chipotle we went.  I got the steak bowl with black beans, pinto beans, and cilantro lime rice.  I ate 3/4 of it with some chips, so dinner comes in at 13 points.

Then we watched American Idol – I totally want Casey to win! 😀

Stats for Wednesday:

  • 34 points
  • 40 minute elliptical at lunch
  • 20 minute elliptical at gym
  • 20 minutes of laps
  • 20 minutes of fun with the weighted rings
  • average blood sugar 144

Question of the Day:  Did your Mom work when you grew up or was she a stay at home Mom?   Did you wait for her to come home if she did work?

Happy Thursday – two days til the weekend – woot! 😀

  1. My mama didn’t work until I left home so I was one of the lucky (???) ones that had mama home all the time.
You had a great work out. Don’t you just love hanging with Hannah. I did that with Mike on Monday after work and tomorrow night if…IF…it quits snowing and the sun comes back out. We’ll go for a bike ride again I think.
I looked at the WW in our area and not sure if it’s the same everywhere but over a hundred dollars a month for 4 meetings, some e-tools and a couple pamplets seemed a bit high for me. Think I’ll stick with what I’m doing. The ladies were nice and took the time to chatter with me a few minutes.
Take care Bizz and have a blessed day today.

  2. As the wife of a Poolman I have to say – you need your own pool. You don’t share very well. giggle

And I skipped the ‘tater yesterday and had yummy pasta like in your post. So good! 🙂

  3. Mom had to go back to work when I was 12, 2 days a week. I couldn’t wait for her to get home! But on Fri she didn’t get home until 7 pm.

  4. I love the picture of the pasta and I wish I had that in my fridge for breakfast! lol I love that you and Hannah are having fun at the pool together! 🙂

My Mom was at home most of the time…she worked part time when we were at school. She was room mother for both me & my brother’s classes each year. I loved walking out to the parking lot at school seeing her waiting for us in our big old station wagon. lol I also loved heading home for an after school snack. Corn fritters were my 1st choice any day of the week! 🙂

  5. I love your Hangin with Hannah days! She is such a fun daughter!

  6. I LOVE that you and Hannah are close & like hanging out together. My mom and I talk on the phone a lot now, but we’re far from close. I like to hang out with her in small doses, usually (a weekend here, a weekend there), but I’m glad we get along better now that we don’t see each other a lot.

Chipotle rice is my FAVORITE. I’m a little jealous.

  7. My Mom worked, and my Dad stayed home; I can’t remember when my Dad went to work as well, it had to have been in high school at some point. I got into a lot of shenanigans in those days!

  8. I think it’s so great that you and Hannah have put aside time to be together every week and it seems like no matter what you do you always have so much fun!

  9. Childhood candy 🙂 Love your story- its amazing the memories that food can bring up. My Dad used to take me with him to the market every Sunday when I was little. He’d let me get whatever candy I wanted…I (obviously) looked forward to this trip every week ;). Thats sweet that your bosses bought in treats. The scone looks so yummy. Love cinnamon chips. And glad you had fun with your (grown up) peanut :). Mmmm that chipotle bowl looks incredible. Idol was great last night!

  10. oh i LOVE chipotle!!

  11. Now it isn’t a gas station on every corner, it is a Starbucks!

    I lurve Chipotle. Barbacoa!

My mother was home for a while, then she went back to work. However, she worked across the street. We were latchkey kids and turned out okay.

  12. I love how you work out with Hannah. That’s awesome. My mom stayed at home until my youngest brother was 6. When she came home from work (even though it was part time on the weekends) I would get so excited!

  13. Hanging out with Hannah sounds fun!! Love all your eats, and sooooo jealous of Chipotle!! We don’t have one nearby. Boo!

My parents were business owners, so they worked all. The. Time. My nanny took care of me most days! Loved when mommy came hone, though! 🙂 mommies are the best.

  14. I love your relationship with Hannah! Almost as much as I love Chuckles! That gave me a good…laugh.

The Panera cinnamon scones are the BEST. Good for you for working them into your healthy plan!

  15. Love hangin’ with Hanners! 🙂

Remember how much we would laugh just playing racquet ball! Those were some good times.

  16. You and Hannah have such a fantastic relationship!!! My mom was home for a few years, but went to work when I was about 10. And I would get SOOO excited when she came home. EXCEPT if I’d been a bit naughty that day, then I didn’t WANT her to come home ’cause I knew I’d have some “‘splainin’ to do”. (luckily, I wasn’t naughty often. Or at least CAUGHT being naughty often! 🙂 )
    Have a great day Biz!!

  17. My mom worked M-Thurs as a speech pathologist in the school district I went too. So I often saw her at school in my elementry days (did I mention my dad was my middle school principal?)…and then on Fridays when she was off, it was always fun to come home to a cleaned house and some goodie she had baked up for me:)

  18. I love that you are able to make time and enjoy your daughter!

  19. Hanging with Hannah nights are awesome. How neat is it that you exercise together? Love that!

My mom worked at different times during my childhood. I helped take care of twin boys five years younger than me so I really liked it when she didn’t work outside of the home!

I was very blessed to be a stay at home mom with my own two kids.

  20. My mom always worked at home, in her studio in the basement. So we checked in w/ her when we got home from school and she was nearby if we absolutely needed her.

    So funny with Hannah!

  21. My mom stayed home until I was in 6th grade, and then she worked at an elementary school so she was still home with us in the afternoons. My dad worked full time and taught at nights so she could stay home. I loved having her around so much!

  22. I love this! It’s fantastic that you and Hannah have such a wonderful strong relationship.

I used to go to my mum’s work (a vet clinic) after school – I’d get to play with the dogs and help the receptionists with files and such. And my dad worked just a block from my house, so my sister and I would go and “pick him up from work” at the end of the day 🙂

    Those are nice little traditions.

  23. you two sound like so much fun. i love chipotle, i might have to eat there soon!

  24. My mom is a housewife…I was lucky!! She got busier with church ministry as I got older though, just right for me to be more independent. I loved reading the times when you were younger though. I still remember the exact candies I used to enjoy when I was younger, too.

  25. Wow, that brings me back, I used to eat Chuckles at summer swim meets! Glad you’re having some good workouts in the pool 🙂

And congrats on your new job – hope you’re settling in well!

  26. I love this post Biz! My mom stayed home, but I”m an old, and that’s what moms did! (you and Hannah probably would give me the stink eye!!!) Love your hanging with Hannah day, it sure will create wonderful memories for both of you. 🙂
I loved Chuckles, and also Idaho Spuds, does anyone remember them?
Seems like you are taking well to your new job; good for you! 🙂

  27. It is so great that you and Hannah are such good friends! I don’t have that with my Mom b/c…well, she’s a psycho B! lol My Mom was mostly stay-at-home. She went back to work briefly after my little sister was born and even then, I didn’t get excited to see her, but I did sort of miss her b/c when she was gone, I had to make sure the baby didn’t cry so Dad didn’t get mad. At least when she was home he could get mad at her instead of me! I know that sounds bad, but I guess all families have their issues and overall my childhood was great.

  28. I love Hannah’s sense of humor!

GREAT JOB with the swimming. I am impressed – that breathing/swimming/kicking combo is still something I can’t manage. Good to see it does get easier with practice. 🙂
