Paleo Restaurant Challenge #2 – And Weekly Holiday Challenge Update

Happy Sunday everyone!  Hope you all are enjoying your weekend so far.  It’s a rest day exercise wise for me, but I do plan on taking advantage of our 60 degree weather today and take a long walk.  😀  I am definitely starting to feel sore from the strength training, which is a good thing!

I did lat pulls at 40 pounds yesterday, lunges (which I hate – Lori, I did reverse lunges which helped a lot!), and side planks on an incline holding a 10 pound weight.  Then I did my 1:3:1 technique on the treadmill – walk for 1 minute, run for 3 then sprint for 1 minute.  I did that for 40 minutes and I was spent afterwards.  These 55 minute workouts are really tough, but in a good way!

So Tony and I had a $20 gift certificate to Nozumi in South Barrington’s Arboretum Mall.  Mara, when we get together we should definitely go here – I’ve been here now half a dozen times and I’ve never not liked anything I’ve ordered.

I almost always look up the menu before going to restaurants so I am not tempted by the menu when I sit down and change my mind.  Online they had an appetizers of mussels in a lemongrass broth and a beef and asparagus carpacchio (sp?).  Sadly, when we got there, the menu had changed so I had to think quick on my feet.

I ended up picking the short rib lettuce wrap as my appetizer.  Holy shizz, this was delicious.  The short rib was so flavorful and tender, the the extra crunch from the julienned white radish on top.  Winning!

While Tony enjoyed his sushi:

I ordered the Wagyu Teriyaki Burger, but I asked for no cheese (no onion!) and subbed in steamed veggies in place of the fries.

I of course ditched the bun.  Since there was so much lettuce, I made tiny lettuce wraps using Tony’s ginger and wasabi – the meat was so flavorful and tender.  Definitely going to try to make ginger wasabi sliders some time this week – check out how perfectly this was cooked!

So how are my 2011 Holiday Challengers doing?  I know Christina is down 6 pounds in anticipation of her wedding next month!  Aimee is running a half marathon today!  Pam has lost 16.5 pounds so far on my challenge – way to go Pam!

Tomorrow is my official WI on the Zero Scale.  I lost 1.6 according to my WW WI yesterday this week.  And I did declare Saturday wine Saturday and enjoyed a few glasses of wine throughout the evening.  I decided life is too short not to have wine once a week!

My sister will be picking a winner for BSI cranberry sometime today.  Thanks for hosting this week Jenn!

I have some new items on the menu this week:  bacon and dried cranberry “biscuits,” butternut squash soup with ginger shrimp, multi-colored red pepper soup with cilantro meatballs, pork and pumpkin chili and a crustless bacon and broccoli quiche.  What’s new on your menu this week?

  1. I feel you on lunges, I’m just not a big fan. We have lunges to do today when we finish Stage 2 of The New Rules of Lifting. blah. I’ve been putting it off because I hate some of the moves in this stage.

    That burger looks great. I haven’t ordered a burger out in awhile. I need to and just ditch the gluten-y bun. Lettuce wraps with a burger sound good.

    I’m going to measure myself tomorrow and weigh in. I’ll let you know!

  3. That burger looks intense. I licked my screen. WOW and Tony’s sushi is almost too pretty to eat.

    Nothing much new on the menu this week except homemade cinnamon/apple oatmeal [dang it’s good] and peach/strawberry/banana smoothies made without yogurt. I was surprised how much better they are than the ones with yogurt.

    Have fun with the leaf blower. heehee

  6. I love that you try and look at the menu beforehand. What a great idea! It is always great to have a game plan. Even though that wasn’t the case this time, the food you ordered looks amazing! 🙂

    I’m still the only one in the family who refuses to even try sushi. Everyone else LOVES it. But I say-Ew. And I also say Ew to burgers that are red inside! Make mine burnt! LOL

  9. Glad you’re making room for a few tiny indulgences. I think in the long run it will help you stick with your plan. And that burger was cooked perfectly.

  10. Are you trying Paleo, Biz? I’m doing some modified carb-cycling myself starting today. Sun, Mon, and Tues I am doing lower carb (Paleo-esque, but not quite; no or limited grains, and sugar, etc.)

    I have been LOVING lettuce wraps lately. Everything you guys ate looks yummy!!

    On my menu this week: First half is lots of meat, fish, and veggies, lol. Second half, not sure yet. I had tuna + avocado lettuce wraps for dinner and they were SO good. Can’t wait to see everything you eat! 🙂

    Came over here through Shelley’s blog. What draw my attention is that you’re doing Paleo. I’m on this low carb lifestyle right now that is similar to Paleo but less strict (if I’m correct) and I’m interested to see how other people do without less carbs. I saw in some older posts we use the same products now like almond and coconut flour and coconut oil and some of your recipes perfectly fit in my program.

  12. You are doing great! Two friends of mine ( a husband and wife) lost a lot of weight on Paleo. They look great! They recommended these websites if you don’t already know of them

    I did okay on the Challenge last week – we spent 3 days in Amish country on a bus tour so I sampled amazing homemade goodies. Scary how Thanksgiving is next week already!

  14. Thanks for the shout out Biz. Your workouts are challenging. I helped myself to some of the exercises the other day at the gym and I really pushed to finish most of the exercises, some I simply couldn’t complete. I love the feeling after I do strength training. I can’t wait to have more time to dedicate to it after the marathon.

    Those lettuce wraps look so delicious. I love sushi! Good for you for allowing yourself a little wine. We just cannot deprive ourselves of everything.
