Kinda fell off the Paleo wagon . . .

I was doing well all week food wise, but the exercise was almost non-existent – I only worked out two days this week, have worked through my lunches and I didn’t get home from work last night until almost 11:45 lat night.Β  😦

Although Hannah and I had a date night Thursday night!Β  We chose a Mexican restaurant and I had grilled chicken fajitas (no onions this time) with red and green peppers and guacamole.Β  But it was the chips.Β  The goddamn tortilla chips with a spicy salsa.Β  I probably easily had 20 chips.

They come warm to the table, okay my mouth is watering just thinking about them!Β  After dinner Hannah and I went to a new thrift store, but it was more like a retail store than a thrift store.Β  I mean everything was used but it felt like retail prices – they had All-Clad pans for $149 used!

I did make Hannah laugh though – I kept trying on different clothes and hats.Β  Yes Tyler, I know it gives you the skivvies when I put used hats on my head. πŸ˜€

I found my 1980’s glasses!!

See that lady in the background?Β  She said to me “I love that combination on you!”Β  Ha!

Not sure what the purpose of these gloves were??Β  Kinda felt like I should go boxing. πŸ˜€

And every woman needs some bling in their hat!

Then yesterday I realized I hadn’t put a breakfast together and quickly stole $5 bucks from Tony’s wallet (thanks!) and picked up . . .McDonald’s oatmeal!Β  I know, I know, this is banned from the Paleo diet but it was so good – the fruit is just right – just a little tart with the dried cranberries.

Lunch was eaten in a blur of putting documents together – Tony bought me some marinated taco meat and I had taco lettuce wraps – too busy to take a picture, so thanks Google images!

I had more taco meat and soup in the fridge, but my boss bought us Jimmy John’s for dinner.Β  I can’t remember the last time I even had bread!Β  I got the Vito.

Except no onions and I had extra cherry and banana peppers! πŸ˜€

Needless to say since I worked late last night I didn’t go to WW – sleeping in under my down comforter and snuggling with Tony sounded like a much better idea! πŸ˜€

So I didn’t do too well on my eating/exercise plan this week.Β  And next week is going to be crazy too.Β  My Mom is having surgery on Tuesday so I’ll be headed to her house Monday night to sleep over.Β  She will most likely be in the hospital until the day after Thanksgiving. 😦  Sadly, other than Thanksgiving day I’ll probably have to work most of the long weekend.Β  Part of me just wants to start this Paleo diet over on November 28!

I do think I need to eat more carbs and as much as my trainer is going to balk at this, I plan on adding some beans to my diet.Β  Specifically so I can make this chili.Β  Yep, a sweet potato chili!Β  (and I am happy that this cook is also a field hockey player!).Β  My store has sweet potatoes on sale this week for .25 cents a pound.Β  I plan on making some meals for my Mom when she comes home so she doesn’t have to cook much.

If you have any freezer friendly meal ideas for my Momma, let me know. πŸ˜€

Look what else you can make with sweet potatoes – sweet potato Challah bread?Β  Yes please!Β  I might have to make this this weekend to see if it will make our Thanksgiving day table. πŸ˜€

And check out this sweet potato hummus!

Tony and I have a date with our backyard that needs to be mowed and leaves to be picked up.Β  Hope to get to my favorite grocery store that is now reopend – woot!

What’s on tap for your weekend?

  1. Hope you make that sweet potato hummusβ€”it’s so good!

  2. I tried paleo for a whopping three weeks. I just couldn’t do it! I always felt like I was going to have a heart attack, and i missed fruit. South Beach has been WAY more realistic for me!
I’ve been wondering about that store… looks like it might be worth a stop!

    • Mara – you have to go there – best deli around, super produce and great prices – I normally spend about $80 a week there for our family of three – with tons of meat too! πŸ˜€

  3. I can’t stand putting hats on from any store—all I can think about is, “What if the person before me had lice?” LOL

  4. Sounds like you have a busy couple of weeks- push through it! And do the best you can with the paleo (trying your best is better than not doing it at all, right??). Chips and salsa are my biggest weakness. LOVE them. Happy weekend to you gorgeous (you rocked that cheetah hat ;))

  5. You look fantastic Biz! Love the hats!
I would have eaten ALL the chips, they’re my downfall! Have a fun weekend!! πŸ™‚

  6. LOL at those glasses! I didn’t know that is where mine ended up when I got rid of them! Those gloves are a bit weird as well. They almost look like someone is gripping your hands. Now I am going to have bad dreams.

Don’t give up on paleo. Even if you only do a few days a week, it can help. Then transition to full-blown later.

Hope your mom has a speedy recovery!

  7. 11:45?! Biz! You’re working too hard! I honestly thought that with my insane work schedule that I would lose weight. Nope. I get home at 9pm, and am STARVED. I can inhale 800 calories before I even come up for air. And then, not sleep enough! I hope this weekend brings a bit more balance πŸ™‚ And I am totally jealous you’re hosting! P.S. I will be in Chicago 12/13-18th – let’s plan to get together!!!

  8. It’s ok, Biz, you’ll find your way through trial and error. πŸ™‚ I don’t think I could ever do Paleo 100% of the time, but right now I am committed to lower carb/no grains 3 days a week. I dig it, for now. I just like to experiment, and I love trying all different types of foods and preparation methods. We’ll see what happens! Hang in there and good luck to your mom!

  9. I feel for your Momma having to be in the hospital over Thanksgiving 😦 I am glad you will be able to spend some time with her tho’. Please give her a big Skippy hug from me.

I am fighting going to get my tests on Monday b/c I know the minute they are finished they are going to want to put me in the hospital immediately and I don’t want to go back – last time they didn’t feed me for almost 10 days – and besides, it’s lonely. No one likes the hospital, but I actually think I have a phobia about. [okay, I am done. sorry.]

So, the paleo wasn’t for you – there are other ways to eat and lose those last few pounds. But I have to ask – because when I see your pics you ARE healthy looking and NOT overweight by even a pound for goodness sakes. Couldn’t you continue to eat the way you were, which you were also managing your blood sugar well, and keep exercising and not worry about losing anymore? I [honestly] think you look wonderful [and the leopard had is just such a bonus] but maybe you are fixed on the magic number 150?

I don’t know. I think it should be more about health and happiness than a number on a scale. What do I know. I had pizza for breakfast. giggle – guess how much sodium I was allowed for the rest of the day? Yep – pretty much zippo. heehee

Things that freeze well for your Momma – vegetable soups [no potatoes], mild chili, bean soup, lasagna [cut in individual portions after cooking] turkey, stuffing and gravy [swear, so good – I have to freeze a plate for my MIL every year that she doesn’t make it to my house b/c she loves it so much] Good luck.

  10. Hope everything goes well for your mom. What a tough time to be in the hospital! Poor thing.

You’ve had a crazy insane busy week – but hey, maybe you can do a restart on the paleo and give it another go? Sorry that work is so awful right now.

  11. (not gloves–socks, to spread your toes, especially after they’ve been shoved in shoes all day–think “yoga toes”)

  12. Did you happen to go to Savers? I agree that it is not really a thrift store. They have raised their prices and not as good as it was when they first started out.

Wishing your mom get well vibes. I hope you get some time to yourself and take a moment to just relax.

  13. I don’t care if you ate carbs or not. You look great!!! So if the carbs are making you lose in the face keep it up! Seriously, I can’t believe how thin your face looks now!!! Good job, keep up the great work!

  14. I am a huge thrifter as well and it is so annoying when some want to charge an arm and a leg for things. We want to pay a few bucks and get loads of great stuff, that’s why we’re here!!!

  15. Sending thoughts and prayers your mom’s way. It’s never easy to go into the hospital, but especially around the holidays.

Don’t be hard on yourself about going off Paleo briefly. I think it’s difficult to do any diet that is restricting. There is no way I could pass up tortilla chips! You are obviously doing something right because you look terrific.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  16. Eek for the eightie’s glasses: I think they’re coming back!! Seen hippy cool types wearing them…

  17. Mexican restaurants are my downfall! Even when I’m strong enough to pass over the chips, that just means I end up inhaling my entire platter of food.

Cut yourself some slack this week, Biz. Between craziness at work, Thanksgiving, taking care of your mom and the knowledge that you’ll be working over the weekend….it’s too much!!! Either allow yourself the week and restart Paleo next week or do the best you can with a few days Paleo or a few meals Paleo. Whatever will work the easiest for you. Give it to yourself! πŸ™‚

Oh, and I think you look so slim in the glove pic! And the in the side pic of the hat with bling, check out that defined chin! πŸ˜€ You’re doing great no matter what the stupid scale says!!!

  18. Freezer friendly meals:
    lasagna
    baked ziti
    pot pies
    enchiladas
    shepard’s pie
    most casseroles
any soups you can think of – I use the plastic pint or quart containers for easy 1 or 2 serving meals.

I love Jimmy Johns!! One of the restaurants I’m missing since moving back to NC!! (sigh)

  19. Best wishes to your Mom this week!

Lookin’ good in the pics Biz! I can tell you’ve lost weight!

  20. Praying your Mom’s surgery goes well tomorrow!

Working all those extra hours has got to be stressful. That being said – you did great eating only 20 of those fresh tortilla chips….I would have found any excuse to binge. GREAT job!

  21. Way behind on blog commenting, sorry for all the late comments πŸ™‚ Those gloves are creepy! Hope you have a better week and “survive” the mother of all eating days of the year. I am starting the day with a Pi-K run and hope to finish it with a long walk with the pup to help.
