December 1st?

Yikes.  I can’t tell you how fast this year has gone by.  Pretty soon it will be Christmas and New Years and that dreaded “I’ll lose weight this year!” January 1 resolution.  Don’t believe me?  Check out these posts!

In 2010 this is what I looked like – I think my face is thinner now. 😀  (Hi Mel!!)

Well I am happy to say that I am down 14.4 pounds for the year.  Certainly not breaking any records, but I am happy that I am not starting out this new year at literally the same weight from January 2009 to January 2011!  I only have 5.6 pounds to lose this month to hit my goal of 20 pounds lost.

So I have a plan.  But its going to be hard to keep it up.  But I have my December calendar packed and ready to go with workouts!  See that highlighted square?  That’s my and Tony’s 11th anniversary.

What the hard part is going to be is that Tony is having more surgery.  He developed a hernia as a complication from his colon cancer surgery.  His surgery is on December 12, but because he’s on blood thinners for his artificial heart valve, he may have to be hospitalized before that date.  We both thought we’d be done with hospitals this year. 😦

So I am not sure how I am going to juggle working out, work, meal planning, taking care of my Tony this month, but if I don’t have a plan I know I’ll just say “f it” and lock myself in my pantry with bags of pretzels and a box of wine. 😀  And maybe a t.v. so I can watch Food Network.

Since I had leftover zucchini pancakes, I made another “breakfast” tower of sorts.  Two zucchini pancakes, 3 ounces of leftover pork, spinach and an egg (and half an ounce of cheese -shhh!) with fresh pineapple on the side.  Breakfast comes in at 388 caloreis, 17 fat, 24 carbs, 3.5 fiber and 34 protein.

When I cleaned out my refrigerator I forgot that I had bought these No Noodles at Whole Foods with my Mom a few weeks ago.  They are made of water, yam flour and lime.  I am not kidding.

They say that they are fully cooked “just add to your favorite dish.”  So since I had my last frozen package of Paleo chili, I made chili mac with these.  With more unphotographed pineapple on the side, lunch came in at 374 calories, 19 fat, 27 carbs, 4.4 fiber and 24 protein.

When I first took them out of the package, they look like celephane noodles, which I don’t particularly like because of the texture.  And this was kinda awkward to eat at my desk, so I ended up taking a knife and fork and chopping up the noodles and ended up eating it like soup.

The verdict?  Meh.  They didn’t taste like anything but the Tabasco I tossed with them.  And they were $2.99 a package at Whole Foods.  Not worth it in my opinion!

Work was quiet and productive!  Although the day dragged a bit around 3:00.  I defrosted chicken breasts not really knowing what I was going to do with them, but I let Tony decide – I said “do you feel like chicken parmesan or chicken tacos?  He shocked the shit out of me (and I did a happy dance) that he decided on chicken tacos!  My three tacos come in at 536 calories, 12 fat, 35 carbs and 21 protein.

I have an apology to make.  Tony kept telling me that my pictures were taking a long time to download on the blog and insisted that I had my camera on the wrong setting.  I kept telling him I hadn’t changed anything!  Well, apparently I did have it on the “large” setting which made each picture like 2 MB.  Sorry if its been taking a while for my blog to load.  That’s why the pictures are all different sizes on this post – I fixed it though!  So, Tony – you were right.  There, I said it! 😀

Stats for Wednesday

  • 1330 calories (includes almonds as a snack)
  • 56 fat, 95 carb, 17 fiber, 83 protein
  • no exercise
  • average blood sugar 141

It’s December 1 – time to get my workout in!   I’ll leave you with an awkward family photo Christmas picture – enjoy!

UPDATE:  BSI HAS BEEN EXTENDED DUE TO THANKSGIVING!  You have until Saturday, December 3 morning to get your PEAR recipes to Mara

  1. That sucks Tony has to go back in to the hospital. May 2012 bring a hospital free year!

  2. hahahhahahah- omg- how funny is that picture. Moving along. Sorry to hear about the additional surgery. Tony seems like SUCH an amazing guy- its not fair that he has to keep going through this crapola. Those noodles sound totally funky. Sometimes the cut in cals is just NOT worth it.

  3. Hi Biz,
Here I thought you were done with hospitals! So sorry to hear that Tony has to go for more. I will pray for it all to go well with a quick recovery. Hopefully your mom is doing well. Hang in there girl! Have a big fat paleo steak with butter- that will make you feel good! Take one day at a time, you can do it! Happy Thursday!

  4. My Dad also developed a hernia when he had part of his lower intestine removed due to complications from diverticulitis. I guess it’s pretty common? He recently had surgery too. Hope all goes well and maybe this will mean no hospitals for 2012!!!

And it’s so funny…I have had those exact noodles in my pantry for months now…I’ve been scared to try them 🙂 Glad to have your review of them (my MIL gave them to me for my hubs to try).

Lastly – have you seen The Sriracha Cookbook?! Totally thought of you!

  5. That breakfast looks great! Sure beats my breakfast choice this morning.

You definitely have a rough month ahead. Planning is certainly the key & it’s great you already know that. Plan now so your time & energy will be with Tony – where you really want & need to be. Many prayers for Tony too….

Hoping 2012 will be hospital free for you & your families.

  6. That is great about your weight loss! Sorry about Tony’s surgery. Prayers going his way. The holidays seem to have snuck up on me again too!

  7. 14.4 pounds is a lot! Good for you! Sorry to hear about the additional surgery, but hopefully Tony will be feeling back to himself in no time. Pretzels and wine? Sounds good to me! lol

  8. You’re doing so great on the weight loss. I love how creative you are with your leftovers!!

Sorry that Tony has to have more surgery but just keep thinking positive…I know that’s hard but it’s so important. I’ll think positive for you, too.

  9. 15 lbs is a great accomplishment!! And creating a plan to deal with all the craziness you have going on this month is such a fantastic idea. And inspiring. 🙂

  10. Biz, I’m so sorry Tony has to go back to the hospital. May this be the end of it for a good long while!

  11. Sending positive thoughts and prayers Tony’s way. I know he has been through so much already.

Biz 14.4 pounds is incredible. You look terrific! The important thing is that you are losing slowly and learning how to change your habits for life rather than just throughout the weight loss. You are doing an amazing job!

  12. Good luck Tony!!

I think the “no noodles” must be something like shirataki noodles (a Japanese noodle with no calories made from yams – somehow). True shiratakis do have a little bit of flavor to them, and they smell funky until you rinse/boil them (fishy). If you can find them at the Asian grocery store they’re probably about $1 each which is more reasonable. I haven’t had them in a while but when I lived in CA and cooked more (gosh I need to start cooking again…) I was eating them a few times a week. Maybe that’s why I used to be thinner 😛

Good luck with the 5.6 pounds!

  13. I’m sorry to hear about Tony’s surgery, that poor guy has had enough in 2011, I hope 2012 is a fantastic year for him!

Also, even if your weight loss doesn’t seem huge to you, it’s still great and it will be great knowing that you will go in to 2012 needing to lose less than you did last year 🙂 Love you calendar by the way, I need one of those!

  14. No matter what else happens this year, the fact that you can say you’re 14.5 lbs. lighter than last year is a wonderful thing! Don’t forget it!!

Sorry about Tony and the additional surgery. You guys have certainly had more than your share of hospitals and just a rough year in general. But, you’ve always hung in there with a smile Biz and there’s a lot to be said for that. Hugs.

  15. Ah, I’m sorry Tony has to go back to the hospital! I’m sure that you’ll be able to fit in your workouts though; I’m sure you can even do some boot camps in the hospital or nearby to at least get something in, ya know? That way you’re not too far away!

And I heard about those noodles…I barely like the tofu ones so I don’t think I’ll be trying those ones any time soon!

And that picture is too funny!

  16. sorry to hear about the second surgery 😦 I’ll be thinking of you guys!! CONGRATS on the 14.4 pounds! you’re all over that last 5.6lbs!

  17. Those noodles remind me of the tofu noodles which I don’t care for, and for 2.99, yikes, not worth it at all.

I didn’t realize today was the 1st. My New Years Resolution is to not make any, just continue to strive to do better over all. Resolutions put too much pressure on me.

You have a very busy month ahead, I can relate my husbands bday is Dec. 26th, definitely not ideal, but fun anyway.

  18. Ack – don’t you just hate it when your husband is right?!? (or is that just me?) 😉

Poor Tony – hope this is the end of hospitals for him. I’m sure he’s beyond OVER having surgery!

Even though you didn’t reach your weight-loss goal completely for this year, the fact that you ARE DOWN nearly 15 pounds is awesome! Better 15 down than up, right?

  19. Your face is definitely thinner now! 14 lbs on ladies of our stature makes a big difference!

I’m so sorry that Tony has to head back in for more surgery. 😦 Of course he will be in my thoughts and prayers!

  20. Well, I think it’s great you are starting out the year thinner than last and that you continue the valiant effort toward good health. Getting healthy doesn’t have an end date…it is a lifestyle…so good for you for keeping it up! And your face most def looks thinner now!

Sorry to hear about the impending surgery. Hope Tony has a speedy recovery!

Thanks for the review on the no oodles. I would have been tempted if I saw them, now I won’t bother wasting the money. Not a fan of those shirataki ones either.

I was wondering what happened to BSI….good to know it’s in extension! have a good day Biz!

  21. I’m sorry it looks like your hubby will be in the hospital on your anniversary. How about a plan to celebrate really big another day? New Year!

Losing 14 pounds is better than gaining 14 pounds!!!

  22. I’m sorry to hear Tony’s having another surgery, but am hopeful 2012 will be a hospital free zone! I think you’ve done an amazing job with staying on track with your weight loss goals this year, 14.4 pounds is awesome!

  23. Sorry to hear Tony will be in the hospital again, but glad that you have a plan to make the best of the rest of the year!

BTW when I first glanced I thought you said that was your family christmas photo, and I was so confused! lol

  24. I was just working on December’s calendar this afternoon. My beginning of the month is so packed it’s a good thing I work out at 5 in the morning because I am positive there’s no other time I could fit it in.
I’m sorry Tony has to go back in again. I hope this time it’s quick and easy and he heals fast.
The IRS sucks, I know that. Being self employed I really know that. But because I don’t like to be red flagged I pay what they ask of me instead of pushing their buttons.
Those noodles….ugh!! I’m a visual eater and they do not look like something I’d try.
Have a great rest of the week Biz. I haven’t had check in on Charlie for ages, how’s he doing? Just curious.
Off to Girls Night Out in about 30 minutes, YEAH!!! Take care and God Bless!!

  25. Oh I forgot, your beautiful!!! 14 pounds is wonderful, it’s down, not up and you’ll start the new year happier, healthier and so much smarter than last year. Thank you for sharing your journey with us and thank you for teaching me new and interesting things.

  26. Sorry about Tony needing a hernia repair, but at least that is more of a mundane surgery.

Those no-oodles? Nas-tay! The smell was worse than the taste (which was nothing). They shall never pass my lips again.

And congrats on the weight loss!

  27. It took me a second when I opened your post just now! Hi!!:)

You and Tony are in my thoughts, and I truly hope that everything goes well. Let me know if you need anything, I’m definitely willing to help out however I can! :

  28. That is not good news to hear about Tony! I hope it will be a quick visit.

You are doing so well with your goals this year. I have no doubt that you will accomplish them.

  29. Sorry to hear that Tony will have to have more surgery. Hope all will go well!

I think you have done a great job this year with everything you had going on!!! 2011 has been a pretty tough year for me, too, and I know how hard it is to keep up with exercising and eating well when life is tough… I know you’ll reach your end of year goal!!

  30. hey, a 14 pound weight loss is nothing to scoff at, that’s awesome! and you’ll be starting your new year with a total head start. i’m sorry to hear about tony, what a bummer. going to the doctor can get so old.

lolz at the picture, ah, the holidays 🙂

  31. Sorry about Tony needing more surgery. I hope next year is hospital free for your family.
Your doing great with your weigh loss! Keep up the great work. I can see a difference in how you look, and no mater what you are starting 2012 lighter than 2011.

  32. Ugh, more surgery! Well, I’m very glad it’s not for cancer again, but still frustrating. I’ll keep Tony in prayer.
