Weekly WI and Long Commute

I got to work yesterday and realized I never packed anything for my breakfast!  There was an office meeting and the bagels were giving me the stink eye, but I ended up having 1/2 cup of my granola that I had in my desk drawer, a chopped apple and 1/2 a cup of skim milk.  Breakfast comes in at 6 points.

It was predicted that we might get up to six inches of snow yesterday.  But as luck would have it, at lunch time it was just a bit wet from the rain but wasn’t actually raining.  I ended up walking a song/running a song for 50 minutes.  Not gonna lie, it was pretty cold but it was my last chance workout before my WI today.

I ended up making 4 mini tacos for lunch when I got back – 4 mini corn tortillas, 3 ounces ground sirloin, 1/4 cup black beans, baby spinach, a little bit of cheese and hot taco sauce – all four came in at 10 WW points.

I love when the weather starts to get bad right before rush hour on a Friday night.  It actually wasn’t that bad – we probably only got like an inch of snow on the drive home.  Sadly though, I was driving behind a woman who had no one in front of her, yet was driving 15 miles an hour on a road where the speed limit is 45.

So we live near a river.  You have to cross a bridge to get to our house.  As soon as I got on the last road before turning down the road to my street, I knew something was wrong, and it had nothing to do with the weather.  I turned on our local radio station – turns out there was an accident on the bridge.  It took me 2 hours and 20 minutes to get home last night.  As I got up to the accident I realized the two lanes going east were completely blocked, so they were alternating traffic through one lane. Luckily I had enough gas and I didn’t have to pee too bad.

I had tuna steaks on the menu, being Lent.  Aren’t I a good Methodist wife to not fix meat on Friday’s for my Catholic husband?! 😀  I ended up using this spice seasoning on my tuna – so good!  Thanks again Rachel for this seasoning – I am addicted!

My 4 ounce tuna steak pan seared in 1 tsp. of olive oil, fries and deli cole slaw came in at 10 WW points.  Doesn’t everyone make tuna steaks after being stuck in traffic for almost 2 1/2 hours?

So last week I knew I gained so that’s why I “slept in” and missed my meeting.  This week, I am happy that I am back where I was!

One thing I never did last weekend was exercise – I plan on doing that this weekend.  I have some cool things on the menu this week, including boneless short rib pot pie, except I am making my own pie crust – puff pastry just never goes on sale. 😦  I am also making the Sandwich King’s meatlball sandwich with homemade ciabatta bread.

  1. The ‘stink eye’ rofl. You are a good wife to Tony and the tuna steak looks great.

  2. Oh I do remember those long commutes and do not miss them! lol! Have a good weekend!

  3. Weighting For 50

Ug….gross commute. When that happens, I try to make it ok by thinking “yeah, I’m stuck in traffic, but my day is better than the poor drivers of the cars in the accident”. (and when I say things like that…Dennis calls me “positive pants”. Funny)
Yay for the even/steven wi….have a wonderful weekend Vat.
PS: Stale cornbread is better than NO cornbread! HA! Loved your email.

Ugh, that is the main reason I retired early, the horrible long commute!
That tuna looks good, you sure had to wait a long time for it! 🙂
    Have a relaxing weekend!

  5. I love the idea of walking a song/running a song! And I wouldn’t mind being stuck in traffic if the reward was that tuna!

  6. Corn tortillas are so yummy. Bahhh to the traffic, but glad youre safe!

  7. That long of a commute would have driven me insane! I don’t have a radio in my car so I owuld have just died of boredom. Good thing you had enjough gas and didn’t have to pee. That is my fear, one day I will get caught in traffic with the furious need to pee. I once peed in a monster cup in my car but I don’t think I could pull that off again-lol! I was only like 10 and a lot smaller, making it easier to maneuver.

Great job on avoiding the bagels, the workout, and the weigh in! And of course, the beautiful tuna steaks. 🙂

Can’t wait to hear how the short rib pot pie is. Sounds tasty!

  9. Great self control for avoiding the bagels. Way to go! Sorry about your commute….that blows.

  10. Those tacos look great! I can’t imagine how grumpy I would be if it took me 2 hours to get home. My dogs would not be amused either, they know when I should be home! 😉

I hope you and Tony are having a great weekend.

  11. That is so horrible it took you so long to get home! That’s why I love my 1.6 mile commute – I can always walk 🙂

I saw the meatball sammy on Sandwich King and I thought it looked AMAZING!

  12. Ha! I did a double take on the Raleigh address on the seasoning! I am from Raleigh originally! That’s right by my house!

  13. The salmon looks delish – you are a better woman than I to cook after sitting in the car for so long. I would be slinging cereal and milk at the family.

Good job on staying steady. Awesome.

  14. Ugh on commutes! One of the many reasons I like working from home. I’ll take the annoying stuff to have that. Hope you got in some exercise!

  15. I also sometimes feel like as a good Lutheran wife I need to make meatless meals for my Catholic husband:)

  16. You probably are very strong and in great shape. 🙂 Love the dishes, the new blog design and wish you could come cook for me.

I wrote a post about how we ate as kids in the 70’s for my Finnish fitness blog… how did your family eat then? Everything was much simpler then.
