No Sushi for You!

I had planned on yesterday being a rest day, especially after running two days in a row.  I guess if I was more consistent in running my hips and knees would get used to it.  I ended up doing my 30 minute stretch before work – I feel so good when I am finished stretching – which means I never stretched nearly enough before.

Are you sick of seeing my breakfast muffins?  I am not sick of eating them.  I was trying to describe them to my Mom (who reads every day – Hi Mom!) and the consistency is almost like a quiche, especially the longer they sit in the fridge.  I bake them at 350 for 10 minutes in my office toaster oven (doesn’t heat up very fast).  I added a 140 calorie Greek yogurt to the mix to up the breakfast calories – still this whole plate comes in at 379 calories, 9 fat, 35 carbs, 3.5 fiber and 39 protein.

Since it was 91 degrees out and I wasn’t working out at lunch I decided to hit up a thrift store that’s about 5 minutes from my office.  I bought a couple cookbooks (Emeril Lagasse Book for $1!).  What I didn’t buy, but Skippy, I was thinking of you when I saw this!  Um, she and I are both a little obsessed with snowmen. Open-mouthed smile

And I actually owned this exact record – it brought back memories of my old record player – I would listen to my records and sing at the top of my lungs – who remembers this record player?  You could push the turn table up and you could carry it around like a suit case.

I am sure DeBarge thought he was so hot in that outfit – I wonder what he thinks of it now?!

When I got back it was another salad day . . . TACO salad!  One head of romaine lettuce, baby spinach, canned white corn, jalapeno, 100 calorie guacamole and my dressing was 1/3 cup of my salsa mixed with 2 tablespoons fat free ranch.  And no, this isn’t too many jalapenos – I ate every one. Devil  This giant salad, which took me about 45 minutes to eat, comes in at 485 calories, 21 fat, 45 carbs, 10 fiber and 35 protein.

When Tony and I were grocery shopping over the weekend, when we were leaving there was a woman handing something out – it was a coupon for 50% off your entire dinner bill at a new restaurant called One Buffet.

restaurant

Mara, it’s right down the road from Joseph’s grocery store.  For dinner, it’s all you can eat for $11.79 for adults.  The first time through I got this plate:

bland food

Shitty pictures, but you aren’t missing much because it all pretty much tasted the same way – the shrimp was overcooked, the fried chicken was awful – the star on this plate?  The green beans!  I think what lured Tony in the beginning was the word “sushi” on the flyer.  Um, not a raw piece of sushi in the joint, and cooked sushi just doesn’t do it for him.  So no sushi for you Tony!  But then I reminded him it’s all about me and I was happy with my dinner so it’s all good! Smile with tongue out

But then I saw that you could build your own stir fry – winning!  This was spectacular, and the reason I will go back.  I had tons of veggies, fake crab, shrimp, and beef!  I asked them to make it spicy and they delivered.  I opted for about 1/2 cup of noodles over the rice.

And they had a dessert bar – I did get some fruit, a couple macaroons (had no idea how good these are!) and an almond cookie, which is my favorite.  Oh, and that elephant ear (I think that’s what its called?) was amaze balls too. Open-mouthed smile

Sadly, Tony will not go back, as stir fry as a little too many veggies for him – but Mara if you want to hook up there sometime when school starts again – I am game!

I didn’t even know that trampoline was an Olympic sport!  Check out this girl though – she’s only 16!  I can’t get over how high she gets!  It’s supposed to be 100 today!  Make it a great day!

  1. Holy goodness- trampoline! I had no idea either. That looks like so much fun, but I would be scared out of my mind! Look at you rocking all those jalapenos! I wish I could give you some from our garden. I sent my husband to work with like 10 today to giveaway at work. Jalapeno plants are out of control.

  2. I’m totally making up that I can do that on the trampoline! Not so in real life…

  3. that taco salad is amazing.

  4. How awesome would it be to be able to do that!

  5. OMG that sushi thing is so annoying!

  6. Those breakfast muffins look great! Do you have a recipe for them?

  7. That taco salad looks fabulous!!
I didn’t know trampoline was a sport either.. that looks like a blast!!! I am sure I’d break something trying to attempt any of the twists and flips she is doing.

Nice that the buffet had a build your own stir fry – I would love that. Otherwise, I think most chinese buffets are pretty m’eh and not worth the sodium bloat.

  9. Hey Biz! Sorry if you’ve already posted this, but is there a link somewhere to your muffin quiche recipe?

  10. Wow! That makes me dizzy just watching. I’m also interested in the muffin recipe. 🙂

  11. Bummer about the lack of raw sushi for Tony, but that make your own stir fry is awesome. Reminds me of Mongolian Grill.

Your giant salad has inspired me! Totally gonna have a big ol’ salad for lunch today. 😀

  12. Aw too bad about the sushi! We eat sushi almost every Friday 🙂

  13. oh my gosh that taco salad is phenomenal!

  14. Your taco salad looks AMAZING!!! Loving all those jalapenos!

Too bad about the sushi, but a build your own stir fry sounds AWESOME!

  15. That buffet sounds exactly like one that we’ve been to here. The mongolian buffet where you make your own is the best. Freshest!! The desserts even look the same. I love the macaroons too. I tried to get my kids to eat the sushi there and they did but only because I offered them $5. My kids will do anything for money. And it wasn’t even “real” sushi. Ya, none of us are sushi fans. 🙂

  16. If you are a coconut lover, macaroons are heaven on earth. 🙂 I love that your mommy reads every day. My mommy does, too 🙂

  17. Making your breakfast muffins this weekend when I go home 🙂 I’ve made something similar before (from The Chic Life blog) and my Dad loves them. So easy to just reheat and eat.. and gets veg and quality protein first thing in the morning! Best part about them? made with ingredients we always have in the house! Thanks biz, and enjoy the end of your Thursday. The weekend is right around the corner!!

  18. I hate when places don’t have raw sushi because I hate things like imitation crab!

  19. I like the idea of the ranch/ salsa dressing!

Love a good sushi buffet, so happy one is opening close to me soon!

I didn’t know that the trampoline was an Olympic sport. We are going to the Olympics next month! The tickets to the events are SO expensive. I was joking to my husband that we will probably see an event I’ve never heard of. Maybe we will go to trampoline? 🙂

  21. I never get sick of muffins, but I prefer the sweet kind, I never eat savory breakfasts.

100 today!!!! Yikes, it’s finally getting pretty hot here as well. Just might have to bite the bullet & turn on the A.C.

  22. OH man, it’s hotter where you are than at my place! Crazy! At least it was a fun trip down memory lane at the thrift store…lol. 🙂

  23. You, you ::sputter:: DIDN’T bring him home?!?! If he had a mouth it would be frowning about now, in sadness. giggle He’s cute! Our thrift store had all it’s Christmas stuff 75% off – snowman palooza – but me without my wheelchair I didn’t last the long line and came home 😦

I didn’t know trampoline was an olympic sport either. Neat! I wonder if they televise it? Probably at some obscure hour I bet. I can’t wait for the Olympics. It is the one time of year we eat dinner in front of the TV and root on our favorite athletes. The girls don’t make plans – we just all stay in and cheer and make “bets”. And eat. It is so much fun.

Take care my friend. I was so very sad to read about your Uncle. He sounds like a wonderful man – and quite the cutie – you can tell he was a lot of fun. If you come to Richmond and you need ANYTHING – don’t hesitate to contact us. We are only a hop, skip and a jump to there. Hugs!

  24. i think the food we eat at restaurants is dangerous for health as it contains more calories ,carbs and made in oil which contains fats. we can make buffet and muffins at home . spend some time in kitchen once a week and prepare fresh and healthy food for maintaining health .

  25. Oh my gosh. My mouth waters after seeing those, they look so damn delicious, they also look like something that I’d be allowed to eat and not get fat :D.
