I Got A Ticket

Before I left for work yesterday, it was raining pretty good – its so nice to see some rain!  It was short lived though. . . by the time I left for work it was puffy clouds and blue skies.

And, I always think of Lori, yesterday was Bagel Wednesday!  This was an asiago cheese bagel with 1/2 ounce of salami, 3/4 ounce swiss cheese, and a baby spinach scrambled egg.

The weatherman kept talking about the break in our heat.  It was still 95 degrees yesterday at lunch, so I ended up running more errands at lunch. Sad smile

I grabbed some soup from the freezer for lunch.  Once I defrosted it I realized it was chicken noodle soup.  I must have grilled this whole chicken because the soup had a nice smoky flavor to it.  It was about 2 cups of soup and was surprisingly filling.

Yep, I couldn’t decide which picture to post, so you got all three.  You’re welcome. Open-mouthed smile

So I get home from work and the mail is sitting on the counter.  I see a letter from Enterprise and I think its because they wanted to thank us for a three week rental last month, or a survey.

Nope.  It notified me that I had gotten a red light ticket while I was driving the rental car.  At the bottom of the letter it said that they would charge the credit card on file $18.  As much as I was pissed about it, I thought “well, it’s only $18 dollars!”

Um, guess again.  It gave a website where I could see the video.  And true, I did a rolling right turn on a red light, but the ticket is $100!  What’s worse is that the same thing happened to Tony last year and he’s avoided that intersection and hasn’t shopped in Fox River Grove since.

I won’t ever come home using that intersection again – and FRG – I am flipping my finger up at you as I drive by!

Whew, okay, where was I?  Before work yesterday I went into our downstairs fridge to get something and realized I had forgotten about ribs I bought over the weekend.  I had rubbed them with dry rub and had planned on cooking them low and slow on Sunday and then finish them off on the grill during the week this week.

Tony was working from home yesterday, so around 1:30 he put them in the oven at 210 degrees.  I didn’t take them out until I got home around 5:45.  They were perfect.  Just 5 minutes on the grill with BBQ and dinner was done.  We had delicious corn on the cob on the side that I just microwaved on fresh veggie setting.  Dinner was literally ready in 10 minutes thanks to Tony baking the ribs. Open-mouthed smile

Guess what?  I didn’t snack at all last night!  I just kept telling myself “The Kitchen is Closed.”

I am taking a half day today.  Work has been slow this week and my Mom is closing on her house tomorrow and the movers are taking all of her stuff so she’s having a sleep over at our house.  I just need to do a clean sweep – the past three weekends I haven’t had time to do a deep clean.

My Mom also has to have food at the ready within a few minutes of waking up, so I plan on making Autumn’s Blueberry Lemon muffins with streusel topping.  I’ve always loved the blueberry/lemon combo!

Here’s to a short work day!  Question of the Day: Have you ever gotten a ticket from a red light camera before?

  1. bahhhh! How annoying. They just installed tons of cameras near our house..makes me nervous! What a delicious breakfast bagel. And you have me craving soup (yayy for soup year round).

  2. Argh, sorry you got a ticket! We had red-light cameras here for a while, and I was always extra careful to not do what you did at those intersections. Annoying, I know, to get that ticket, when the real reason the cameras are in place is to deter blatant red-light runners (which are really bad in my town).

Good going with the no snacking last night!!!

  3. Good morning stranger! Where’s the link so we can watch your criminal activity? 🙂

  4. OMG I always do rolling turns. Guess I have to be more careful about that! On a positive note, though, the bagel looks delicious!

  5. Is that a Panera asiago bagel? I love them but I can’t find a good one in the stores.

I think the red lighty cameras are a joke. Just another way to take a job away from someone who needs one.

Your ribs look soooooo good. I want some. I just can’t bring myself to have the oven on that long with these super hot muggy days.

Good job on no snacks. I too have been finding my food cravings spike at night.

  6. We don’t have those cameras around here, thankfully! The last ticket I got was for going 40 in a 40, yep you heard right. I even fought it and took a picture of the speed limit sign that was right in front of my car. They said, “the implied speed limit is 35 mph”…wtf??? What does that mean implied, put up a sign that says 35 then!! Cost $140 for the ticket and $50 for zero points and your insurance doesn’t find out…yep $190 for doing the speed limit…ugh!!!

  7. Tickets suck. I’ve never gotten a video ticket. There is a rotary very close to my house. Before the rotary is a bridge and the speed limit goes from 60 to 25 in less than a quarter of a mile so as you enter the rotary you should be going 25 mph. Yeah right! I got a $200 ticket last year because I was going 45 as I merged onto the rotary. Now I’m the annoying car that practically comes to a stop as I get on the rotary. I would like to flip the bird every time I see a police car just waiting to nab someone. It’s not going to be me!!

    • I haven’t personally gotten one of these tickets, but have a funny story. I belong to a Direct Sales group and they have their convention in Columbus, Ohio every year. Well many of the out of state sales people travel to a nearby suburb to tour the factory, etc. This small nearby town sends out several of these “camera tickets” for speeding in their small town (the speed limit is really slow) and you’re socked with an expensive ticket when you get back home. The news of this has pretty well spread across the internet & facebook now, and every year people warn you about speeding in this town. I’m sure it’s a huge money maker for them.

  8. I would look into the legality of those cameras. I got one over 2yrs ago and I never paid it. My partner is a cop and I’m at attorney and she told me that the DMV doesnt link them to your DL. Since then, most cities have removed them because there is no proof of service to you. When you get a regular ticket, you sign and there is proof that you got it. With these, they just mail them and you could have moved, etc. Oh and here in Cali, they cost almost 500.00.

  9. That is such a bummer!!! Darn cameras at intersections!
Enjoy your half day! Looking forward to those lemon muffins. They sound fabulous!

  10. My husnand got a ticket from a red light camera when I was pregnant with our first son. But the ticket was sent to the wrong address (our neighbors with the “381/2” address moved a few months prior.

All of a sudden, we ended up on a list at the post office, and a bunch of our mail got redirected to our neighbors at their new address, including the ticket (and our 401k statements…twice.) By the time it got sent to collections, it was $300. But when the police realized that we’d never gotten the original, we only had to pay the original $100.

  11. ahhhh booo on the ticket, that sucks. My husband recently got a letter that he had stopped in a crosswalk at a light, and supposedly that is illegal here? He fought it because at that intersection there is no sign saying to can’t stop in the crosswalk, and he hasn’t heard from them since! Your ribs look good, I need to make some ribs soon! That is definitely a summer food!

  12. You should look into contesting it. There are certain states that have ruled that photo tickets are not valid because you can’t “face your accuser” etc. Also, sometimes you can attach a letter with your check explaining the situation and they courts can reduce the ticket.

    Hooray for bagels!

I have never gotten a camera ticket. I actually don’t speed and am careful with stops. When I first got my driver’s license and was on probation I got a speeding ticket. In NY – that meant license suspension. I learned my lesson LOL!

  14. oh no! my first ticket was for running a red light. i got one of those photos in the mail and it was sent to my parents house. the MOST embarrassing haha

  15. I’ve never gotten one from a camera. But I did get one for a rolling stop when I was 9 months pregnant. The cop didn’t care, he had a quota..I hope you didn’t get a point on your license. That would suck!

  16. We have those redlight cameras EVERYWHERE in AZ. We used to have them on our freeways and surface streets for speed traps. I have got one ticket so far so I consider myself lucky.

Those ribs look awesome, we always had them from the oven growing up.

  17. I’m sorry you got a ticket…BOO!!! That’s never fun!

I’m excited that you made the muffins and so glad they turned out for you! 🙂

Also…did you put hot sauce on your corn?? I’ve never done that…genius!

  18. yep, there was a truck in front of me so i couldnt see the light, figured it was green since he was going thru and he was going thru a yellow light so of course i went thru a red light, and yep 100 bucks, they sent the pictures to me with the ticket…was pissed, i hate those camera’s but guess it saves on having cops there and they for sure are making their money….they catch everything ….

  19. Our state is not renewing the red light camera contract…so many folks took it to court and we found out the timing was off. I got one a couple years ago and it cost me $100 plus a weekend of driving school.

  20. I’ve had a few red light tickets but not lately because I’m very careful not to drive through a red light because we have to pay more than $ 100 for it. Traffic tickets are very expensive here, f.e. if you use your phone in your hand in your car it’s costing about $ 160 and it’s not worth it.

There are red light cameras everywhere here in Holland, so are speeding cameras on the highway.

  21. Haha, I came to ask the same question about the Panera bagel. Did you happen to know of a decent one available in stores? This knowledge would improve my life by at least 12%.

P.S. Sorry about the ticket. That’s extremely uncool. And yet if you do end up posting the video, I’ll totally be watching it 🙂
