Making MY Spirits Bright!

I have to tell you that I am overwhelmed by all of your emails, cards AND gifts sent my way after my Holiday Funk post.  I am happy to report, that with your help, my Christmas spirit is shining bright!

Thank to you blog reader Jody and blogger Lori for their gorgeous family Christmas cards.

Thank you to blog reader Carol, who sent me an adorable KISSING snowman/snowwoman salt and pepper shakers – so fricken cute!

And to blogger Jenn who sent me this adorable snowman coffee mug, it has a cute ceramic spoon to go with it!  Yep, this one is going to my office today. Open-mouthed smile  This will make me smile all day long today.

And to blog reader Kym, who sent me a wonderful handmade card and an I Love Snowman kleenex box cover – I am getting a square kleenex box today to it can go right into my bathroom.  (my taco seasoning bottle stood in for the picture though!)

My first question to all of you is . . . how did you know I liked snowmen??!!

Your love, generosity, and kindness is what makes this world go round, and that I am the beneficiary of such goodness, I am forever grateful.   THANK YOU!!

And Jenn put it correctly – even though I’ve never met most of you, I consider all of you my friends, and my life is richer for it. Open-mouthed smile

With all the bread Hannah brought me from Panera, I am pretty sure the breakfast sammie is going to be around for a while.  Yesterday’s sammie had sourdough bread, ham, one egg, baby spinach and American cheese, with a tangerine on the side.  Sadly, I left my camera on in my camera bag overnight, so my phone stood in.  I am glad I bring my camera charger to work, so by lunch I was fully charged.

I went to the gym with the sole reason of . . . taking a long hot shower!  I love the showers at my gym.  I walked for 2 minutes, cooled down for 2 minutes, but ran the rest of the time.  Not the fastest runner, but watching a show about burgers made me run while I was dreaming about burgers!

So I took a 10 minute shower – it was so relaxing!

Lunch was the last of my potato soup, some three cheese miche toast on the side and another tangerine and apple.  I will definitely make this soup again.

Over the weekend I picked up this stuffed pork chop package for two – it was stuffed with cheese, baby spinach and ham.  Check out the price – $1.67 for two!

kindness 009

Yep, I got too caught up in the price of the meat, that I failed to see on the label that it also had the word ONION as one of the stuffing components.

The cheese kind of oozed out and burned as I was cooking it, but the first half of my pork was pretty tasty.  All of a sudden I hear Tony say “are there fucking onions in here?!”  I looked through mine and said “nope!”  It wasn’t until I got to the other half that it was chock full of the stinkiest of onions – the dreaded white onion.  We both almost threw up.

Next time I’ll read the labels better!

I am sure it’s the same as in your office spaces, but it seems every day we are delivered more and more goodies.  Yesterday we got a box of these windmill almond cookies.  I have a recollection of having these around Christmas time growing up.  Do you remember these?

They were giving me the stink eye all day when I passed them by our coffee nook at work.  But I didn’t give in – go me!

Well.  That is until I got home.  My Aunt sent us her Christmas goodie box that was chock full of Chex Mix.  Tony says that hands down my Aunt makes the best Chex mix, and she makes it in her microwave!  My brother Charlie sent a box too – but his had SPICY chex mix, macarooons, oatmeal scotchies, snickerdoodles, spicy peanuts, oh my!

I was fine until around 9:30 and then I cracked open the bag of spicy Chex mix.  I texted Charlie and said “I love your spicy Chex mix!  I love you!”  He responded “Really?  I was worried it didn’t turn out.”  I told him I’d have to run 4 miles today because I didn’t stop eating during that whole half hour!  Gah!

If I stay 168 pounds by New Years Day it will be a Christmas miracle! Open-mouthed smile  But Lord help me, I loves the Chex mix!

So thank you again to everyone who lifted up my spirits.  In a world that is so crazy, it is wonderful to know there are people out there who will give someone a random act of kindness:

A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual person or people.

I plan on paying it forward – we are supposed to get snow today, so I’ll probably shovel my elderly neighbors driveway. Open-mouthed smile  What will be your random act of kindness today?

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite Christmas duets.  David Bowie and Bing Crosby.  Sorry about the 15 second commercial in the beginning, but this was the best version I found online.

Make it a great day!

  1. Because of you and asking about people not/are sending Christmas cards out I ordered my photo cards at Costco yesterday. So now I need you to email me your address so you can get one along with 24 other people. Since you made me think it would be nice and we did take good pictures this year for our annual family picture. My email is lioneljay@yahoo.com. I am so glad you are feeling the love we all have for you! Yours is one of the blogs on my blog roll I go to and read every day. I don’t go to everyone’s just yours and a few others. Enjoy your snow. We just keep getting cold temps with high winds. I guess I should be thankful it isn’t snow with cold temps and high winds! Especially since my “family wagon” is a 12 passenger van, you know 5 kids can’t sit by each other in a vehicle on long trips or the fight the whole way!!! Merry Christmas Miss Bizz!

  2. I’m a chex mix addict too! I can’t even sample it …I lose control 😉 SO sweet that you got so many wonderful girls- heart blog world. THat mug is amazing. I’m with you on the hot showers- I never want to get out

  3. I’ve been out of the loop this past week as our boys arrived for an early Christmas celebration. I’ll have to go back and find out about your “funk” but want to say that if I had known, I’d have jumped right in to help “defunk” you! Hope all is better.

    Best,
    Bonnie

    • Thanks Bonnie – all is well in my neck of the woods – just had to turn my attitude around and be thankful for everything I have – no worries! 😀

  4. You’re right–the snowmen salt and pepper shakers are adorable!! Glad you’re feeling better as we head into the weekend. Yay! I CANNOT wait. And if you like Chex Mix, don’t look at the post I have ready to publish in just a bit. It’s soooooo good. 🙂

  5. Yeah for blog world! Best wishes to all of your readers for a very Merry Christmas! I see a few snowmen(on the card) lost their noses during the trip north. Oh well.. they are Florida snowmen. They probably melted off on the way out 🙂 It will be 81 here today.

    • Thanks again Kym – I have my square Kleenex box in my car so I can put it up in my bathroom when I get home tonight – the noses probably did melt! 😀

  6. Those are some nice snowmen you received. My mother is a snowmen fanatic. If I remember I’ll take a pic of her craziness. For my random act of kindness I shovel my neighbor’s half of the driveway we share every winter. This way I get a bit of exercise every winter at least 🙂

    • I’d love to see a picture of your Mom’s snowmen! If you send it to me by email, I’ll post it! (mainly to show I am not the only snowman crazeball!)

  7. I’m so sorry that you guys don’t love onions as much as I do! (Well, most people love broccoli and it makes me gag… so to each his/her own, right!?)

    Happy Holidays!
    Cheers~

  8. I love the puppy chow style chex mix. Crack!!

Glad you have your holiday spirit and stay safe from all that snow coming your way!!

  9. Chex Mix addict here too. It’s a family tradition, and I haven’t even made 1 batch yet! But it’s on my list. Glad you’re feeling the love from blog friends. Tho we’ve never met, your blog is one of the first ones I read everyday and it feels like we’re friends.

  10. Biz, send me your address, and I’ll send you a bit more cheer 🙂

  11. Are you allergic to onions? My husband is and I am always trying to find recipes without them.

    • Ha, allergic, no. But both my husband and I can’t stand the taste of them, unless they are really skinny and deep fat fried. We pretty much skip over onions in any recipe we follow. 😀

  12. Such good internet friends you have Biz! Glad you are feeling good about the holidays. We all need to count our blessings and look for the good.

I have never been a fan of the chex mix – I might be the only one who feels that way!

  13. While certainly appreciate the lovely sentiment that those snow man salt and pepper shakers represent, When I am using them in July I might whisper a swear word in your direction! I AM NOT KIDDING, I WILL BE USING THEM IN JULY!!

  14. Woke up this morning not feeling well…..looked out the front window and the two neighbors across the street made snowmen in their front yards….made me smile 🙂 🙂 Will have to take a picture of them.

Email me with your address, I still have your card sitting on my table. Oh yes, I loved those windmill cookies, will have to pick up a package my next time out shopping. Tooooooo much snow to go outside and travel. Weatherman is saying if you don’t have to travel today, stay home. Sounds like a good idea.

  15. It’s a Wonderful Life in Blogland!!! Love how sweet everyone is – my cards finally came in, and then went out, yesterday, so you’ll be adding another one to the pile soon. 🙂

I totally remember those windmill cookies!

  16. I love the salt and peppers shakers and the mug!! Definitely will make you smile 🙂

  17. That is so cool you got all that snowman stuff, surprise gifts are always the best! I hope you don’t get too much snow, it looks like quite a few places are getting some wacky weather. Oh and I could probably eat chex mix everyday for a year and never be sick of it.

    • Trader Joe’s Rice Sticks are indeed spreub rice noodles. They’re far superior to anything else available, and a boon for GF eaters. But here’s the shock: Trader Joe’s has DISCONTINUED them! I can’t believe it. TJ is usually more alert than this. I suppose they might have sold more if they’d called it fettucine than “rice sticks” but they’ve got a lot of absurd groceries taking up shelf space, and could certainly spare a few inches for this truly excellent product. If you share my dismay, please go to the Trader Joe’s website and let them know you want these noodles back.

  18. Cute salt & pepper shakers!

Gotta say, there is a serious lack of sweets/treats on the wards at the hospital I’m currently at, so I haven’t had much to test my will power. I think I’ve had a few chocolates, and that’s about it.

  19. ah! so many great things to comment on! i will pick a few! … LOVE the snowman salt n pepper shakers because of the cardinal -> my special bird!
i hate onions! i DO remember those windmill cookies from when i was a child!
that bing + david duet is one of my top favourite christmas songs!
i was in a funk most of november…tomorrow being the shortest day means i will REALLY be happy!
so glad you have received such lovely christmas thoughts and gifts!

  20. Loved the salt and pepper shakers too! That was some awesome booty you got 🙂
