Today is the Day . . .

My secret (or not so secret) dream job would be to own a food truck and be open for breakfast and lunch.  I’d serve all sorts of scones, biscotti, good coffee and delicious egg sandwiches on homemade biscuits.

Lunch would be paninis!  Roast beef and goat cheese with roasted red pepper, BLTs, ham and Swiss cheese with horseradish mustard.  And all my sandwiches of course would be made on homemade bread.

I’ve been toying with the idea forever to make sourdough bread, hands down my favorite kind of bread.  Blog reader and blogger extraordinaire herself, Mel, has cracked the code on making a sourdough starter.   I mentioned it over a month ago that I’ve wanted to try my hand at a start, and turns out she’s already written an article about it.

So thanks Mel, today is the day I am going to start my starter!  I am sure I’ll have questions along the way – be prepared! Open-mouthed smile

I had a taste for a bagel yesterday, so that’s what I had.  While it was good, I was hungry before noon!  The everything bagel is the best one in my opinion.

I brought my detox water to work – by noon I was more than half way done, and it was finished by 3:00 – I probably drank a total of 3 liters of water yesterday!

In order to get some mileage for my 100 miles in May challenge, I decided to do the bike.  I did 7.19 miles in 30 minutes, and kept the RPM between 95 and 100.  Then I did 5 minutes of abs on the bosu, and 10 minutes of upper body.

I made my buffalo chicken chili for Souper Friday at work – It was a big hit.  I had a whole crock pot full and there was probably 3/4 of a cup left!   I was glad that I portioned mine out and put it in the fridge before going to work out!  This has just enough heat too!

Tony and I talked in the afternoon and he was like “what’s for dinner?”  Here’s the deal.  While you guys know I always want Party Pizza Friday, typically I meal plan on Saturday.  So I am coming up with breakfast ideas for one boss, lunch ideas for my SIL and other boss, and then dinner for us.  After planning out six days of meals, I am literally done with meal planning, so my dinner planning ends on Thursday night.

But, because Tony loves my ass, he suggested we grab a couple beers at our new favorite local place, and order a pizza to take home.  Genius!  The place was packed because it was prom night in our town.  All the kids were out so all the parents went out too I guess?!

We had a slice of their cheese pizza the first time we went a few weeks ago – the owner of the bar was eating some and offered us a taste.  It is really, really good pizza, and you guys know I am kind of an expert when it comes to pizza!  Generous toppings, a nice crust.  We got a meatza – pepperoni, bacon and sausage.

Now I am sure a couple people are going to say stuff like “where is your game face Biz!”  I thought you were back on, with the eye on the prize!  Well, I am, but there are some things I am not taking off the table, and pizza and a couple beers are two of them.  I just can’t do it every day or every week even, but life is to short to cut out delicious pizza! Open-mouthed smile  YOLO!

I plan on taking a long walk in our hilly neighborhood today.  I have my detox water in the fridge ready to go.  I epically fail at drinking water on the weekends, but having the pitcher at the ready will help.

So excited about making the sourdough starter – have any of you tried it (besides Mel!)?   Hope you all have a great weekend – see you on Monday! Open-mouthed smile

  1. I would love to own a food truck too. Love your “open all day” approach. We are seriously thinking of doing a simple coffee and muffin stand at our FM (which lacks anything like that). Just pinned your Buffalo Chili for later use too! Good luck with the sour dough.

  2. Best of luck on your starter. Wanted to share these balls with you (if you haven’t seen em yet) http://www.slenderkitchen.com/quinoa-zuchinni-meatballs/

  3. Good luck with the sourdough! One of my most favorite breads too!! I’ve never tried making it. The pizza looks great! Love when the cheese gets a little browned. Hope you have a great walk

    • I never ended up walking because I was a lumberjack yesterday! It took me over an hour to saw (using a hand saw!) down a fallen limb in our back yard – that was hard work!

  4. there are sourdough starters that are a hundred years old – I’ve wanted to attempt it, but I couldn’t keep friendship bread alive – and you know I will run that food truck with you! 🙂

  5. hummmm…..think I will make some detox water today. I have some dried mint leaves, can put them in a tea bag, that might work. Lemon…check, cucumber….check, water…..check!!

A food truck, that sounds like fun, you will be constantly bizzy in your mobil kitchen!!!

We had a breakfast pizza yesterday from Festival foods. Pizzas are $2.00 off, so it was $8 then a man ahead of me got $93 worth of candy and received $2.00 off on his next purchase of food……..the lady handed it to him and he waved his hand and said give it to her…(me) Oh wow, my blessed day!!! So I asked, can I use it today??? Yes!! so that pizza was $6!!! But oh was that breakfast pizza good!!! Scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and cheese on a very thin crust……I think we will do that again!!!

So what I am saying…….it’s okay to have pizza…..life is too, too short to cut out everything, just don’t over-dose on it!!!

Have a great week-end and might I add, you and Tony know how to have fun and enjoy the moment!!! JP and I are going on a date today, looking at outdoor fountains and how to assemble one. I have a bunch of flagstone and a liner, just have to buy the pump and stuff.

We might go to “Serious Burger” today, I shall take pictures. (I better stop here, looks like a blog!)

    • That is a deal!! Hope you had fun with JP – we had burgers for lunch yesterday – I got a poblano burger that came with a super spicy poblano sauce – so good! 😀

      • Had the serious burgers with sweet potato fries……..Ummmm absolutely delicious burgers, but I forgot to take pictures…. 😦 Next time!!

  6. Love your food truck dream! Would you have a stable spot or would you want to move around to different places? Either way sounds like so much fun! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    • I always thought it would be fun to be mobile – just twitter where I am and the people would come! (well, in my mind it would be a popular truck!)

  7. findingradiance

I totally think you should do a food truck!

    I have a sourdough starter. I made it 2 years ago http://findingradiance.com/2011/05/17/breadipus-rex-aka-sourdough-bread/

It’s still going strong, even though I neglect it in the fridge sometimes. I made some sourdough banana bread that was really good a couple weeks ago.

    • I forgot that you made that! I’ll have to reread the link – they say that restaurant in San Francisco that makes famous sourdough bread has a starter from 100+ years ago!

  8. There are definitely things that are never worth giving up–YOLO for sure!! Mine are homemade margaritas and carrot cake. 🙂

  9. Our prom night is in a couple of weeks – good tip on the going out!

  10. You would rock at owning a food truck – I could so see that! Glad Tyler gave your chili rave reviews, no doubt there 😉 I’m making the detox water this week….!

    • I drank my 2L yesterday – first time in forever I’ve had my water over the weekends. Don’t think I can count wine as water! 😀

  11. missmelbryant

Thanks for the shout, Biz. I can hardly wait to chat about your experiences. As you know from reading the article, it took me a few tries to get my starter going, but then when it did, man it really rocked!

DO NOT EVER GIVE UP BEER. OR PIZZA. OR WINE. NEVER EVER GIVE UP CHEESE!

  12. I would totally do the food truck thing with you. We would rock! I’ll be in charge of the onions! 🙂

  13. You are totally right to eat pizza every now and then. Life is too short to not eat foods that you love. We just eat a little less if it’s not the healthiest choice.

I plan my meals on Sunday and usually I don’t mind but I would love to have a week off sometimes but if I do that, there’s nothing to eat around the house because I do all the cooking and grocery shopping 🙂

  14. Wow, that’s quite the meat-packed pizza!! Sounds amazing. I could go without pizza, but beer? No way. I think this weekend was made for beer, I had it about 3 different times this weekend…..there is something about nice weather and beer that just makes me happy 🙂

I’ve never done anything with sourdough but BOY do I bet homemade sourdough bread is AMAZING!

  15. That pizza looks so good. Pizza is one thing I will never pass up. I’m crushing hard on the spinach/feta/egg wraps from Starbucks. I tried to recreate one today for breakfast and I think I nailed it. That chili looks delicious. I want some, even though I just finished dinner.

  16. Sourdough starter? I’ve always wanted to do one of those. When I get back home, it’s going on the list of things I must do!
