Lake Travis

Oops!  I ended up posting some pictures without text earlier today, and hit publish on my phone before I was ready!  So some of you just saw this:  xoaosusof as text – ha!  So the pictures in this post are in no particular order!

We rented a boat on Lake Travis yesterday.  Normally on vacations, the boat rental day ends up being one of our favorite days.  I was happy that it was overcast, but just in case I wore SPF 50 – no burns for me – yippee!

We quickly discovered that May is early for Lake Travis – we literally saw only four boats in 4 hours!  We ended up getting our pontoon boat at Just for Fun rentals.  I picked that place because on Tuesdays, they have buy one, get one free hour, so our 4 hour boat rental was only $129.

I normally don’t like bodies of water where I can’t see what’s under the water.  So I shocked the shit out of Tony when I just jumped in feet first!  Holy shit though, it was cold!!!  I did manage to float for about 20 minutes.

My brother works at a Japanese gaming company, and tonight is a code deadline, so he’s been working nearly around the clock for days.  I was happy that my being at his house, sleeping over last night, gave him “permission” to come home early – he was home by 7!  Here he is photo bombing my dinner. 😀  My SIL made pork tenderloin, oven potatoes, corn and cantaloupe – thanks Laura!

Our boat rental was from 10 to 2, so I brought stuff to make Italian beef sandwiches on the boat.  My daughter in law Lizz loves spicy shit like me, so we thought she would love it.  Um, turns out she doesn’t like peppers, so she just poured the spicy oil and her sammie and loved it.  Josh, I wanted you to know that you giardiniera made it all the way to Texas!

Here is Lizz enjoying a coffee before beer later! 😀

Joe is the bar manager at iPic theaters, and was proud of his alcohol selection at his house.  Most of it was stuff that didn’t sell, but it was super tasty.  We’ve had a nice bottle of cabernet, and he brought out a bottle of Proseco one night – thanks Joe!

Here is Joe bringing up anchor – just as we pulled in the sun was blaring so it was perfect timing!

After dinner Charlie and I had to go on a beer run.  The two beers he had in his fridge expired in 2012, and it was Miller Ultra Light.  Enough said.  We bought a four pack of Boddington’s and sat around watching t.v., watching youtube videos and generally just laughing the night away.  Tony doesn’t get it, but we have so much fun together.

We also kept sending pictures to my twin sister saying stuff like “we are having so much fun without you!”   And then Charlie would text her on the side saying “do you know when Biz is getting the hell out of here?!”  Ha ha ha – that’s the unseen humor Tony doesn’t get.  Well, pretty much no one else would get it either, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I am lucky that I get to call my brother a great friend!

Alright, hopefully this post sticks – I just lost the last one somehow.  I think it was because I was toggling between my iPhone app and a laptop – I am so not computer saavy!

Other than the boat ride, Tony and I didn’t plan a single minute of this vacation, and so far we’ve had a great time!

Question of the Day:  Do you plan every detail of your vacation, or do you just go with the flow?

I hope to post again Friday – hope you are all having a great week!

  1. Are y’all drinking CHAMPAGNE? Damn! It’s like being on Jay-Z’s yacht!

  2. ahhhh . . . it sounds so nice to be hanging out on a boat for an afternoon. Enjoy!!

  3. For us, vacation = no stress. Our opinion is when you plan every detail and something goes wrong everybody gets their panties bunched and all stressed out. We make a list of stuff “we’d like to do”, and then just roll with it. No stress involved.
Looks like you’re having a great time! Enjoy every minute of it!!!

  4. Some of the best things we’ve done on vacation have been unplanned. We’ve learned to have a planned day, than an off/unplanned day. Seems to work for us.

  5. I appreciated your photo texts!! 🙂 Glad you are having fun and got to hang out with Charlie!

  6. Sounds like fun….my friend lives on the river and has a pontoon boat, favorte thing to do is bring food, drop anchor and eat, just sitting there rocking on the waves. Sooooo relaxing.
I like to roll with the flow, no plans. My husbands family is coming for a visit in September…..uge, they are planners, we don’t click well.

Glad you are having fun and having good weather. Enjoy!!!

Me thinks you are more computer saavy then you think, going between your Iphone and laptop….would have me completely confused ;0

  7. Glad you’re having a great time out on the lake! It looks beautiful and I bet that water was cold! Eek!

  8. Looks like you are having fun, I am not a fan of water that is not a pool either. I tend to plan loose itineraries, or at least have a list of things we want to do.

  9. Sounds like a great time, I haven’t rented a pontoon in a few years. Must put that on my to-do list 🙂 You sound like you had a great time with Charlie, that’s awesome! I don’t really plan out our vacations. Maybe to go see a couple of things but, mainly go with the flow 🙂

  10. Sounds like a fun time! We head out on vacation in a week and I have not planned a damn thing. Guess we are gonna wing it!

  11. I plan a few things, but mostly go with the flow, and do whatever we’re in the mood for that day. It looks like Texas is treating you well!

  12. My that is some green water. Yeah you for jumping right in. We usually have an idea of things we would like to do on vacation but just kind of go with the flow. Glad to see you having such a great time.

  13. Sounds like you are having a blast – that’s great!
Oh I do not plan vacations! There is so much planning in just getting there and home with the two kids that I leave the vacation part up in the air. There is always a few things we of course want to fit in, but, rarely have anything actually scheduled.

  14. Glad you are having such a nice time! Love sibling humor! 🙂

I plan quite a bit when we go on vacation, mainly because of the kid. Looking forward to going a bit more with the flow once he gets a bit older… 🙂

    Have fun!

  15. Those texts are hilarious; that’s the kind of stuff my brother and I would do (if we had a third sibling, that is)…

  16. So glad you are having FUN! ANd I am a planner but I am easily swayed to go with the flow. Just like something to start with and in Austin it might have been restaurant reservations. I hear they have some great places!

  17. That water is crazy green! I was raised swimming in murky lake water and actually prefer it to clean, chlorinated pools. I love that you and your brother (and sister) have such a great time when you’re together and I totally get the laughter–when you’re so close with someone and have so many years of history, you just get jokes between each other that no one else understands.

I do plan every minute of vacations, I’m almost afraid to just wing it, like we won’t do anything unless I plan like a fiend. Actually, my favorite vacation we ever took was one I didn’t plan except for wher were were staying, at a cabin. Every day we woke up and decided we would hike, or we would swim, and just took it minute by minute. It was so relaxing and fun! Need to remember that for next vaca. 🙂

  18. Looks like a perfect vacation to me, so happy to hear you are having so much fun.

We always travel to different places, we book the hotels/B&B where we will be staying but we decide what we are going to do the night before or in the morning during breakfast. Although there are always some places I know I want to see and we make sure we visit them.

  19. sounds like you are having a great time! I like to plan the big stuff, but leave room for spontaneity too! Enjoy your time with family!!

  20. Sounds like so much fun! I like to have an idea of what to do on vacation, but I don’t feel committed to keeping a certain itinerary. A good vacation for me is a mixed of planned and unplanned things!

  21. What a fun trip! Renting a boat sounds like a blast. Do you have to have a special license to do so?

    • Nope! They go over all the details of the boat, but my husband has driven boats for 30+ years. I don’t mind driving on open water, but I can’t steer for shit!

  22. Looks like so much fun, way to rub it in to your sis! 🙂 No, I don’t plan everything on vacations. Usually our vacations consist on visiting family, we have yet to go on a real destination vacation. Maybe someday when we have more money it would be so great to go to Hawaii. I LOVE that island.

  23. SO glad you are having a good time! We love going boating too! Luckily we have friends with a boat! LOL! Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

  24. Sounds like an awesome trip! I’m lucky – I hate the process of planning vacations, but I also get nervous about just winging it…happily my boyfriend loves to figure out the details, so I just delegate everything to him. Most vacations end up being a surprise for me, but a well-planned one…it works out perfectly! (I have asked him lots of times if he minds, and amazingly it seems like he actually likes doing it!) 🙂

  25. What a great trip! We plan sometimes and not others. This last trip we had no plans and no hotels booked or anything! It was fun 😀
