Just Keep Swimming

I had to laugh at all the comments yesterday about my voice having an accent AND that I sound young – I’ll take the young comment anytime, but I don’t think I have an accent at all – just everyone else in the country. Open-mouthed smile  I promise to have a real VLOG of me up soon! Open-mouthed smile

It was a taco kind of day for me.  First up was breakfast tacos – two extra thin Mission corn tortillas (love these things!), egg beaters, 2 ounces steak, spinach, cheese and roasted red pepper and red cabbage for crunch.  Gotta love that this whole plate of food is only 357 calories!

When I got in the car to go to the gym, holy hot cakes!

It was a perfect day for the outdoor pool.  Sadly, 15 minutes into my swim they blew the whistle and had a 15 minute safety check and chemical check.  So I ended up finishing in the indoor pool.

I took a picture of the slide because I want to slide down it, but have chickened out.  I am not with an kids or anything – but it just looks so fun!

Lunch was more tacos! This time a flour tortilla, ground sirloin, more peppers and cabbage with brown rice and my stove top refried beans.  I added cilantro to the second half of this batch – so good!

Since it was so hot, I didn’t want to stand outside grilling, or turn on the oven, so the deep fryer stepped in – two chicken wings, some carrots and ranch dip with a few fries on the side.  I loves me some chicken wings!  Sadly I am out of Frank’s wing sauce – waahhh!

After dinner I had a chance to Face Talk with my daughter Hannah – I love the technology that we can talk and see each other on our phones!  She’s been busy working, but she’s having a fun summer too going to Ohio Street beach in Chicago with friends.

And then it was time for Day 46 of Insanity – thankfully it was Max Recovery, but it was still tough – think slow strength moves.

Do you know of Talia?  She’s a 13 year old girl who was an Honorary Cover Girl because of her YouTube videos about wearing makeup.  I think she had something like 14 million views.

Even faced with two different kinds of cancer, she kept going, making more videos, because she didn’t know how long she had to live.  She had a bucket list and kept adding to it.

bucket list

I love the fact that she has things like going to Aruba, making her own lipstick and then also deep cleaning her room!  And I thought it was cute that she wanted to have a “bomb” fire at the beach.

Sadly, she lost her battle yesterday.  You can see her video of her on Ellen here.  This originally aired in September 2012.

I love that when asked how she handles what’s happening to her she said “a little fishy told me, just keep swimming.”  I think this analogy can be applied to anything in your life that is hard.  Whether that’s getting up the courage to sign up for a 5k, walking one more turn around your block, or making healthy food choices, or maybe it’s just even getting started?

If you are healthy, I hope that video gets you to move a little more, do a little more and push yourself out of your comfort zone.  JUST KEEP SWIMMING!  You never know how long you’ve got in this life.

Stats for the Day:

  • 1680 calories, 82 fat, 130 carbs, 18 fiber, 106 protein
  • 31% of calories from carbs, 44% from fat, 25% from protein
  • 30 minute swim at lunch
  • 40 minute Max Recovery

Me? I’ll be going down the slide today. Open-mouthed smile And while I can’t cross off much on her bucket list, I can certainly buy flowers and give them to a stranger.

Are you going to keep swimming today?

  1. You should really try the Ole Extreme Wellness Wraps! http://www.olemexicanfoods.com/category/productos/ole-mexican-foods/

They are amazingly good and full of decent stuff and of course high in fiber. Both Rachel and I love the Spinach and Herb ones.

And thanks for the shout out by the way.

  2. Your vlog should include slide footage. 🙂 Enjoy the ride! What a great gym you have, and so close to work.

    • If I wasn’t worried I’d drop my phone in the pool – I would! And BTW, I belong to a swanky Tennis Club – the only reason I can join as a resident is because my office is right next to it, otherwise it would be way too $$!

  3. I saw that about Talia – such an inspiring story!!
Look it has you inspired to go down the slide (which I’m pretty sure I would be too chicken to ever do!) and to buy flowers for a stranger!!
And, you inspired us to follow her motto and “just keep swimming”!!
    Great post, Biz!!!

  4. So sad about Talia – what an amazing girl. I just went back and listened to your voice – you do sound young and so cute!

  5. Just a late comment about your voice, as soon as I heard it, I was like, yep that is Biz. I felt like I could pick your voice out of a line-up. So strange. Most blog voices I hear never match the person!

  6. TOTALLY go down the slide! Thats so so sad about Talia :(.

Yayy for Mexican for breakfast and lunch- so delicious. I adore refried beans. I could eat them all day every day!!

You are looking so thin! Rocking the workouts 🙂

  7. Yes – go down the slide!!

  8. Yes, just keep swimming…and I’d even dive if I was physically able, lol!

  9. Aw, Biz. That makes me so sad. What an inspiration she is. Brings tears to my eyes.

And yes, we all keep swimming. She is/was a sage little girl.

Nothing funny, fun or clever today.

I do hope you keep swimming my friend. You are also an inspiration to us all. xo jg

  10. GET ON THAT SLIDE LADY!!!!! And then ‘just keep swimming’.

I love that you are giving flowers to a stranger. I’m gonna release as secret on a balloon. I hope that with all of us out there that as a community of bloggers we can help fill her list. Paying it Forward!

  11. I’d say go for it – slide down that slide! Thanks for sharing Talia’s story. I hadn’t heard it before and found it very touching.

    • With both of us having girls, it is especially sad – I cannot ever imagine losing my daughter. Give your baby girl an extra long hug tonight! 😀

  12. Get your ass down that slide!! My son bounced around on the diving board again today at lessons, or “not fun swimming.” He is currently “fun swimming” with my Mom while I get some grad school coursework done. So sad about Talia. 😦 Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.

  13. I love the accent, Biz! It makes us downstate folk sound like rednecks! LOL. I’m ok with my twang. We should embrace all accents! Haha. Tacos look yummy although dare I go down my usual immature road and say the beans look like poop. I’m sure they are so DELISH but I can’t help it, I always think that about refried beans! I’m a 5 year old, I know I know. I got a blog btw! I just made my first post! I’m pretty excited to blog about my adventures in losing weight and gaining knowledge about food! WOOHOO!

    • Finally you started blogging!! I’ll be your number one fan. Don’t be surprised if my first comment has amazeballs, tastes like ass or that looks like baby puke. 😀 Hugs!!!

  14. That is sad about Talia, but she seized more in her short life than most people do in a long one!

  15. Hey Biz, the slide does look like fun. You are looking pretty good these days, the swimming and workouts must be toning. I loved hearing your voice yesterday. Not at all what I had been hearing in my head this whole time. You sound so young and sweet! I’ll have to find that post where you included the video from the talk show you were on with your sister. It was Oprah, right? Have a great rest of the week. 🙂

  16. You are so awesome! And insane. I want those bfast taos. Now.

  17. I haven’t been down a slide like that since I was in jr high! When I moved away from PA my sister insisted I developed an AZ accent? No idea, we all sound totally normal out here 🙂

Thanks for the info about Talia, it is always good to have a reality check with my ‘first world’ problems.

  18. I’d heard about that little girl but hadn’t watched any videos yet (chicken). Got tear-filled eyes now! Just keep swimming! And it was Ellen who was the voice of that fish in the movie – so cute. So glad you’re going down the slide!!!!! I think Talia would approve. 🙂

  19. Those wings look fabulous!! We have a place called Thurman’s Cafe (best burger, ever) who does their wings like that….super large and messy, love it.
I would also want to go down the slide, even without kids. haha, I’m still a kid at heart!!

  20. My goodness I didn’t expect to tear up at this point today – it started out with tacos and ended up with tears – that sweet sweet girl. How inspirational for all of us!

  21. P.S. i think Talia would want you to go down that slide 😉

  22. Yes, you better go down that slide–and have fun with it (or preoccupy your mind with it every time you see it). 😉 Aimee said something very nice about you recently to me. 😀

    🙂 Marion
