Fuck Cancer

Although Tony and I could see it in the doctor’s eyes at his appointment last week, Friday night at dinner time we got the call that Tony has rectal cancer.  And while we both kind of saw it coming and had a couple days to digest it, I know both of us were hoping for better news.  We’ve decided that our mantra is going to be:  “Fuck Cancer!”

Not gonna lie, Friday night was rough – we had a pity party for two!  But we woke up Saturday with a positive purpose.  We don’t exactly know what we are dealing with, other than he has a cancerous tumor.   Today we go to a hospital in Chicago where they will do an ultrasound to figure out the exact size and depth of the tumor.

We both are going to rely heavily on our sense of humor to get us through this.  All weekend Tony would say something like “can I have a glass of iced tea?  I have ass cancer!”  And I, who never replaces the toilet paper, replaced it yesterday and as I was walking the toilet paper into the bathroom, I pointed it out to Tony and said “I am replacing this because you have ass cancer!”

Thanks for all your well wishes prior to this diagnosis and keep sending your positive thoughts our way – we can use all the help we can get!

Hugs!

Biz and Tony

  1. Sometimes humor IS the best way to deal with it! Hopefully it will keep your spirits up and stay positive! Whatever happens in our lives, we all have a limited time here in this world so we need to make everyday count! Every day that can be spent laughing is a good day. Boy, imagine how creative you’ll both be with the jokes 30 years from now! My prayers are with you!

  2. Oh my goodness, Biz, I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope this is a kind of cancer that the doctors can take care of pretty soon, best wishes to Tony. Hugs, Natasha

  3. ::hugs::

You guys are in my thoughts. I am so sorry to hear this. ::hugshugshugs::

  4. Oh, Biz, I’m so sorry to hear about this. But your attitude is fantastic, and something to be proud of. YOu guys are quite an inspiration. **hugs**

  5. I can not tell you how sorry I am to read this. I cried & laughed at the same time. FUCK CANCER is our family motto too….as well as…BELIEVE. My dad was diagnosed with Leukemia in Oct 09, went through 6 rounds of chemo and had a bone marrow transplant this past summer. 2010 was one helluva year. Currently he is cancer free!!!! It’s not going to be easy, but Tony will beat this too! Attitude is really important in helping cope. My Aunt had colo-rectal cancer several years ago, was misdiagnosed for a year, and had a poor prognosis initially….and she BEAT IT as well!!! And cancer treatments have come so far since then. Sorry for telling you my life story, but hoping it will help a little!

Prayers and hugs for your family!

  6. So sorry to hear this!! Hoping for a successful treatment for Tony. Positive thoughts are being sent your way.

  7. So sorry to hear of this, Biz. There is quite a vast FUCK Cancer movement for real, and if you google it you’ll find it. You are in a city that has top notch medical resources which will have cutting edge capacities in all treatment and healing modalities.

I haved a good friend who was diagnosed 2 years ago with rectal cancer and has done very well post treatment. VERY WELL. Tony is young and fit and has tons of love in his life – all of this will help him have the best possible outcome.

Please know you’re both in countless hearts, with prayers and positivity extending into the universe from all directions. Biggest hugs and warmest thoughts.

  8. Hugs to both of you…a sense of humor and determination to beat it is the only way to approach it…Fuck cancer is abotu the best way to think of it….I will keep sending out positve vibes to both of you…

  9. Biz–I just don’t know what to say. I just want to give you and Tony a huge hug. I’ll be thinking about you both.

  10. Oh my gosh. I am so, so sorry. I am thinking of you both. Will be praying for you!

  11. So sorry to read this. Prayers sent your way for both of you

  12. So sorry to hear your news Biz but from what I’ve learned about you and Tony you will be able to deal with this. Humor certainly helps as well as a positive attitude. You both are in my prayers.

  13. Biz, I am so very, very sorry to hear this. ((you and Tony))

Our mantra over here for the past few months has also been FUCK CANCER, so I am going to say it extra loud every night so it reaches your house, too.

  14. You and Tony (and Joe and Hannah) will be in my prayers! I run in a shirt that says simply cancer sucks (no logo no pretty ribbon or picture just those bold words) and I get stopped and asked about it all the time (or applauded or get hells yeah it does) and I reply do you know anyone who has or had cancer invariably the answer is yes, I then ask it sucked right?
BUT the cool thing is it doesn’t have to as long as you keep your humor high and your outlook good I believe that it will be cancer that says “Tony sucks, I’m outta here”

    Xo

  15. Best of luck and super positive wishes are all sent your way. Love the attitude and I know it will help. Keep focusing on “I am cancer free, I am healthy, my life is filled with an abundance of good health”. Add it to your mantra. Tony *is* healthy! Prayers for his health and loving wishes to you both,
    ~Leslie

  16. Oh Biz and Tony. I am so sorry. I don’t know what else to say except to send you my best heartfelt thoughts and prayer.

  19. So so sorry Biz….best wishes to your whole family.

  20. You and Tony are in my prayers! They can do amazing things now to treat cancer. And alot of the new treatments are coming from back east. So here’s to you guys getting the best and keeping the jokes coming!!!

  21. All the best in this fight.
My sister had stage 4 non-hodgkin’s and she is now 9 yrs out from a bone marrow transplant. She had the same mantra. She moved back home to the Chicago area to undergo the treatment and she still comes back every six months for her follow up appointments.

  22. Oh Biz and Tony! I’m crying right now. I don’t like that diagnosis at all! CRAP!!

You guys have wonderful attitudes and that’s part of the battle of fighting this. He’s going to be fine. I love you guys. I mean that. I wish there were more that I could do but it’s kind of hard from this distance. Unless you came to Houston’s MD Anderson for treatment then I could be of help and offer you a place to stay. 🙂 Anything you need (someone to listen, a virtual hug, whatever) I’m here.

    ((HUGS))

  23. Yep, cancer sucks and fuck it right in the ear. I have a feeling you and Tony are going to keep the doctors and nurses on their toes with your wicked sense of humor! You know I am, as always, sending healthy healing vibes for a speedy recovery. You will get through this and Tony will be fine. Hugs to you both!

  24. Biz, sending lots of positive thoughts and prayers your and Tony’s way. I love that you are finding the humor in things I know that is the best medicine. *hugs*

  26. I’m sorry you have to go through this, but I love your attitude. Hugs.

  27. Oh, Biz….hugs and prayers to you and your family. I was hoping it wouldn’t be something like this, BUT I love your attitude and your sense of humor about this whole thing. Fuck cancer. I love that. They say your attitude has so much to do with the cancer fight, so you guys are already on top of things, I see. 🙂 I am praying for you right now!

  28. Biz – Mark and I will keep you and Tony in our prayers.

  29. Sending you a huge hug and all the good vibes in the world!!! Tony and you are in my prayers. Keep up your sense of humor!

  36. i like your mantra. hugs to you both.

  37. If pink is the color for breast cancer, can brown be the color for rectal? We’ll all wear brown ribbons for Tony! We’ll help him kick this cancer in the ass
    Love to you both

  38. Elaine (a different one than the earlier commenter!)

You are in my thoughts and prayers…it’s amazing how much I feel like I know you guys, just through the blog. I love that you’re joking about it–you have to be able to laugh to stay sane!

  39. if anyone can handle this awful news with both humor and grace, it’s you two. thinking of you and sending tons and tons of positive vibes your way!! xox

  40. I agree with you. Fuck it. One day at a time. Try no to get overwhelmed with information. Make sure you have doctors you trust. Ask all the questions you need. And keep that positive attitude. Good thoughts headed your way!

  41. erintakescontrol

Sorry to hear this, Biz & Tony! I know you’ll get through it with humor, but with great strength, too. Tony, you can tell that ass-cancer to go straight down the shitter! Thoughts and prayers headed your way.

  43. Wow is all I can say. I’m so sorry to hear about Tony. BUT your humor will for sure get you through this. You guys are an awesome team! Sending good juju your way!

  44. Omg, my eyes were tearing up as I read this. I can feel how much you love him and he loves you in your writing. I recently left an unhappy relationship and was reunited with my true love who I’d met 17yrs ago. Everyday I wake up and thank gawd for her and everyday I worry about her safety( she is a police officer) and I worry that I’ll lose her. I just feel so bad for you, but as you said, a positive attitude is so important. I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

  45. Yep, come out fighting! Fabulous attitude. 🙂 Hugs and my very best wishes for a trouncing of that ‘ass villain’! Sending you lots of good vibes.

  46. OMG, Biz! I am so sorry, but, you know what ~ your mantra and positive attitude is going to BEAT THIS! One of my Best Friends in the whole wide world was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer 1 1/2 years ago (she was only 34 at the time) and she is STILL BEATING it to this day. She has proven to me that a positive attitude and taking care of yourself can make all the difference in the world. Her mantra is “kickin’ cancer to the curb” and she is doing that.

My thoughts and prayers go out to both of you, but, I know with all my heart, Tony will beat this!

Hang in there ~ send hugs, smiles and some California Sunshine your way!

    XOXO,

    Danica

  47. Oh Biz and Tony! I’m so sorry for the news but it sounds like you have a good ass-kickin attitude ready. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery – and if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, please let me know! Oh yeah – and FUCK CANCER!

  49. Oh Biz. I am so sorry. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. And I think Fuck Cancer is an AWESOME motto!

  50. Fuck Cancer indeed! So sorry to hear this, but confident you and Tony will give cancer hell and send it packing.

  51. Will be praying consistently for you both! May God’s love and peace surround you!

  52. This goes without saying, but keep us all posted! (Especially if he has to go in for an assectomy.)

  53. So sorry to hear this Biz. You two are strong and can handle it, and know that you have the support of the blogging community behind you!

  54. That totally sucks! You are both added to my prayer list. I know with your positive attitude and yes, that awesome sense of humor you have that you can get through this.

Praying for the best outcome and your strength to be a strong support for Tony.

  55. prays to you both, and nice mantra haha

  56. Hugs & happy thoughts to you, Tony, Joe & Hannah. 🙂 I just sent you an email – fuck cancer is right!

  57. I don’t even know what to say right now, but just know that you guys are in my thoughts and prayers and Tony, you WILL beat this!!!!!

  58. Definitely keeping good thoughts for you both. I know you can get through this especially with the LOVE and LAUGHTER you both share. My mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer so I know what ya’ll are going through. It SUCKS the big one. Hugs coming your way and I know we haven’t met yet but I’m here if you need anything, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

  59. Oh honey, I’m so sorry you and tony have to go through this but i know your humor and love will get you through the rough times! my thoughts are with the both of you!

  60. You guys will be in my thoughts and prayers. Love your positive attitude! Fuck cancer indeed!!!

  61. So sorry to hear it, but glad to hear that you are trying to keep a positive outlook on it all. Best of luck through this process!!!

  62. No doubt that sucks and I’m sorry for all of you that you have to go through this. I can say that humor won’t always get you through the sucky parts and keep the tears away, but it definitely helps. My brother had a very rare type of sinus cancer several years ago that required surgery, exploratory brain surgery and radiation. We kept a similar attitude and actually regularly had the nurses checking in on us and closing the door to his room because we were laughing so hard. We still joke about the book he’s going to write called “It could be worse–you could have cancer” (based on something his doc said right before he was diagnosed).

So again, I’m sorry you all (especially Tony) have to go through this, but if anyone has the attitude and strength to survive this, it’s you!

And there are way too many inappropriate jokes we all could make about “Fuck Ass Cancer.” I just hope for Tony’s sake that no one takes that offer seriously 😉

  63. Oh Beth I’m so sorry to read this! This is actually one of my fears for Johnny b/c of all his digestive problems with the whey allergy. I think you guys have the right attitude and state of mind. Plus we live so close to some of the best treatment centers in the country. Keep us posted! Your family will be in our prayers! And FUCK CANCER! (I bet Tony never thought his ass would be this famous, huh?)

  64. (((hug))) Biz, I’m so sorry to hear about Tony’s diagnosis! What an awful thing to happen. 😦 I’ll be thinking good thoughts for you both and for your family and will be keeping you all in my prayers.

  65. Oh, honey what a tough one. Let me tell you, 12 years ago my mother had colon cancer, she had it removed, one year of chemo (which was very tolerable) and she’s now 12 years on, no recurrence. At 5 years post-op and cancer free she planted a tree at the treatment centre. Hang on to those stories of folks who make it through with panache, there are many of them and it can be the same for your beloved Tony.

Sending you much love, big big strength, and courage to see you through the tough bits and yes, lots of laughter, laughter is good medicine.

And you know what I’m thinking – if you survived that dodgy flight in that rickety plane on your honeymoon then karma has already shown you that she is definitely on your side. 😉

  66. Prayers and Hugs for both you and Tony!

  67. I’ve been reading this blog for I don’t know how long, but never commented. Count me as another friend you’ve never met; I’ll be thinking of you all.

Kick your own ass (cancer), Tony!

  68. I just got the wind knocked out of me reading this. I will pray for all of you. I like your positive attitude and will pray you can hold on to it through whatever Tony has to go through with his treatments. Hang in there Biz.

  69. Keep postive. Hundreds of positive thoughts coming your way. and FUCK CANCER!!

  70. I read your blog just about everyday. It brings so much joy! I am so sad to hear the news and I’m sending you positive and healing energy!

    FUCK cancer!

  71. sucky news!!! you have a ton of folks on your side though, in case you havent read all 70+ comments. now go fold that cancer like a piece of paper =)

I am really mad. I have decided to do the Avon 2 Day Breast Cancer Walk in April. I just wrote my fundraisig letter tonight and in it said “who doesn’t know someone with cancer? who would like to NEVER have to hear of a cancer diagnosis again?” And, now we hear of one…..IT SUCKS! Hang in there and give his ass a big kiss!

  84. oh no, Biz – I hate to hear this. Fuck cancer, indeed – kick cancer in the ass! I love that you’re going to rely on humor. You guys are totally going to get through this.
